I am here to get as much info on pain management as I can and to discuss these issues with people who can relate. I'm on methadone twice a day with oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I was on OxyContin and oxycodone but had to change due to the expense. I thought OxyContin was the best and hated to change but I've found that methadone works so much better for pain. Oxycontin was $332.00 a month, methadone is $4.50. Much better than OxyContin. I wish I had known about this years ago. I can think better and have more energy and less pain and a general feeling of wellbeing. I'm not into IV use or snorting my meds. I try to go by the book as I can't get kicked out f my pain center. Whatever you do, be careful. Just b/c we take meds. doesn't mean we know everything about them or our tolerance as far as respiratory depression goes. When methadone was mentioned to me the stigma, I could hardly get passed. The nurse talked to me for over an hour before i said ok. The other choice was morphine, i didn't want that! My aunt took it and she just sat and stared, she use to be the matriarch of our family. The one that was always there for any one in need. My husband doesn't know I'm taking that, he went ballistic when the word was mentioned. He has noticed a difference in me doing more around the house. He said just keep doing what you're doing. He didn't have a problem with the stigma of OxyContin. I hope I didn't post this twice.. It keeps saying register, which I did. Just want to share and relate with other people on pain meds.
