Hi. I am a newbie. I lurk here a lot and finally decided to register. I have been addicted to Oxycodone, Tramadol, and any other opiate for the past 3 years. I finally had enough of going to pain management and living pill to pill & have decided to try to quit. I usually take anywhere from 6-10 Oxycodone daily and 4 Tramadol. At my last appointment I talked to my doctor about getting off the opiates and she gave me a prescription of Zubsolv, this is Buprenorphine with Naloxone. Pharmacist says its basically Suboxone. So, I took my last Oxycodone last Wednesday am & started on the Zubs in the evening. I am on the 5.7 (Buprenorphine) & 1.4 Naloxone. Its one pill. It dissolves under my tongue, its quite nasty. Anyway I take 1 in the am and 1 at night. I have had ZERO cravings. Its been 5 days today. Now my concern is that I will become quickly addicted to this. I want to get off of this as fast as I can. I also get extremely high when I first take the pill, its almost like you have taken to big of a dose of Oxy to where it almost makes you nauseous. I hate it. So can anybody here offer any advice? I know they say the Buprenorphone is pretty addictive and you should never go up on it and try to come down as quickly as possible. I just want to be done with these pills. I have legit back issues but I will deal with it using motrin. These pills have wrecked me. I am married for 17 years and have 3 wonderful kids and I don't want to lose anymore time from my family by taking opiates. Do you suggest taking a half of the pill for a few days, and than a 1/4 of a pill? I have never taken the Zub before so I really have no clue. Thanks so much for listening!

Welcome to Bluelight.
I have a lot of experience with bupe.
I'm not sure tho you're looking for a way to stop completely or come up with a tapering schedule of some sort without your drs knowledge, or if you'd like to include your doc in on this.
I would recommend the latter. We can tell you how to come off it with a somewhat generalized taper plan that is used. But I would ask your doc first if you can lower your dosage and what you can lower it to.
The reason you get high from the first dose is because buprenorphine is a hell of a potent opiate. You may be dosing equivalently higher than what you were taking of oxy.
I suggest check out the Buprenorphine Mega Thread in the OD sub forum (Other Drugs) i will grab a link for you in a minute.
May wanna ask your question in there, you will be sure to get a response.

Again welcome to the site, if there's anything else you need help with.. let us in NMI know and we'll do our best.

Good luck

Yes welcome!
Buprenorphine comes in different names, for instance, I read that Buprenex were not used for treatment of opiate addiction.
Maybe that´s a similar opioid.
Good luck!

Welome to BL ! !

And, btw - good point E,

Buprenex is used for cats/dogs… usually in .6mg. I've taken it before long ago between heroin use, it works somewhat… but is utilized mostly in veterinarian clinics.
I don't think it has the Naloxone in it. :)

Thanks so much for the responses. I am not sure how to respond to everyone. Still figuring this out! I would LOVE to wean myself off of this with little WD....I am under the impression that I am on it to stop the WD from the other meds from being so bad. I am really naive when it comes to the Bupe. I think the 5.7 Zub I am on is supposed to be equivalent to 8mg suboxone? Anyway its 5.7 Buprenorphine. I am wondering is that a low dose? I take it 2 times a day. I was abusing my meds big time so its best for me to be off all of them....Thanks!!

yes, I do!

And it is a very wise idea to do so now, while you are having zero cravings.

It can be very painful to withdrawal from buprenorphine; it is very addictive, even though it isn't a full agonist.

Welcome to the site, and I wish you the best of luck in your recovery. :)

Ok great! I hate this medicine. It has made me so high & tired. The after taste is yucky too. I will start taking a half this evening. I take it in the am and pm. I guess the worst of my oxycodone withdrawals would be over by now, would it be safe to start reducing this medicine than? I am wondering if I will feel much physical WD? I have 3 kids and I want to make sure I won't be to physically ill. I know I can't get out of this without suffering somewhere but I just don't want to be super sick. Thanks!!

In my experience, withdrawal from bupe is not as hellish as from oxy or other full agonists, although the rough part of the withdrawal is more drawn out.
Some people will disagree with me on this, but IMO and in my experience bupe withdrawal is definitely not as bad as oxy or dope withdrawal. Not saying it isn't bad-- it's pretty fucking terrible, just not as difficult as oxy.

Anyway after you are on bupe for awhile you will stop getting fucked up from it.. Like as in you'll feel basically nothing from it after a month or two.
(BTW I've found that spitting while it's in your mouth as opposed to swallowing the spit gets rid of most of the negative side-effects)

I would definitely talk to your doctor about a tapering plan-- it's up to you whether you want to try a short taper or a long taper... But for me, I've done multiple short tapers of suboxone (anywhere from 6 days to 2 weeks) and I relapsed on heroin or oxy almost immediately after my taper was done.
So I've opted for a long term, slow taper and I've found that during instances where I didn't have it I didn't go out and score dope like I did when I didn't have after short tapers. So it seems like something about the longer taper works much better, at least for me.

I think part of it is learning to live a "normal" life not being fucked up all the time (and it does not take long for sub to no longer fuck you up... At all) and learn to manage your mind and how you think about drugs, your compulsion, etc. Sub allows you to do that in a non-withdrawl state where otherwise it would be near impossible to do without relapsing and acting on your compulsions and being back to square one. Which is why I think the longer taper is more effective, because when you finally come off it you will have had a good amount of time to work on your recovery and the mental skills to not give in to the withdrawal.
Also, as I stated before sub withdrawal is not as intense as oxy or dope, so that coupled with the skill set is a good recipe for success if you truly want to get clean.

Also what kind of dosage oxy did you take per day?
Sub doctors often give you more sub than you need in the beginning. (I think they assume everyone lies about how much they do to try to minimize their problem-- so even if you're telling the truth they assume you're taking more than that... Just a guess)
