Hey, what does it take to get a mod fired?

There are some idiots for mods on this site. Sorry but its true, while some are great others are just over opinionated assholes who live on the fucking desktops.
Cant say how irritating it is to be in the middle of a great thread and (I wont name anyone or I they might try to ban me) some insolent jack ass closes it for ludicrous reasons, get a life!
 
there's a mechanism on bluelight for bringing issues that you consider troublesome to the attention of the staff - the reporting feature.

neither of you have ever reported a post which you believe demonstrates a poor decision on the part of a bluelight staff member. so what's the problem? if you feel there's a post - or, better, a series of posts - which you believe show a pattern of poor moderating, report them and we'll take a look.

i'd also draw your attention to the relevant section of the the greenlighter's guide:

Bluelight gives a lot of power to the moderators to manage the day-to-day operation of the forums. Making a difficult judgment call or committing a simple human error does not mean a moderator was derelict in their duty. Please note that the complaints procedure stops with the site ownership. If you are still unsatisfied, just laugh and remind yourself that Bluelight is only a message board.

have you ever availed yourself of this process? if you were not satisfied with the outcome what did you do to escalate your issue? you'll know, from having read this, that your within your rights to start a thread here to discuss a complaint publicly. that said, a vague, unsubstantiated complaint is a lot harder to deal with than a more specific complaint with a well-made case. it's inevitable that it will carry even less currency when it comes from a bluelighter with a history of abuse, drug solicitation and form guideline violation.

i'm not saying this to singe you out, j. wallace. rather, to invite you to consider that your complaint will be taken more seriously if you show some respect for the process which has been in place for the best part of 10 years and, for the community at large, works pretty well.

To be perfectly honest, I don't give enough of a crap to go through that process. I've never had a problem with you, Alasdairm. In fact, I enjoy reading you're posts. It's other mods that give off the impression of being too sensitive, or taking their "Job" too seriously. Many times, I see threads closed for reasons I don't support. Often they complain, particularly about Big and Dandy threads turning into "Social" threads. It's stupid really. I don't mean to complain, but again I just don't give enough of a crap to really do anything about it.
 
if you don't give enough of a crap to do anything about it, isn't it a reasonable assumption that it's essentially a non-issue?

if you don't support the reason for a thread being closed, pm the mod who closed it and make a case for its being reopened.

it's easier to moan about the darkness than to simply change a lightbulb? sure it is, but changing a lightbulb really isn't that hard :)

I urge anybody that thinks a thread has been unjustly closed to either PM the moderator that closed the thread to discuss your reasoning for thinking it should have been left open, or simply report the post asking for it to be re-opened. A moderator will get back to you in regards to the thread closure.

There were plenty of times that I re-opened a thread at a members request, as long as it was within reason. Sometimes a mod interprets a thread differently than others and closes it for whatever reason. A simple PM can resolve this issue.

If nobody points these things out to us mods, how are we to know that we may be doing something wrong? As long as a complaint is civil, mods will have no problem receiving the constructive criticism.
 
i realised that i didn't answer the question. what does it take to get a mod fired?

it takes a solid case for their removal, a lot of discussion on the part of the senior staff, extensive guidance on what's expected, and numerous blown chances on the part of the staff member in question to alter their behaviour. it's not something which is taken lightly but it is occasionally necessary.

some people think we're way too lenient when troublesome staff become a chronic problem, some people think we're way too quick to take action, so opinion differs. i do know that we're damned if we do and damned if we don't and i've made my peace with that :)

A few Mods here are ridiculously condescending and constantly engaging in unfair favoritism.
