It sounds like a great festival but it's all self sufficient right? Does that mean there's no vendors selling cold beers, water, food etc?

its more than just a festival and you are right, there are no vendors there.

the only things that they do sell at the centre camp is coffee and ice, and the money received goes to the local community. ice for sale is a life saver in the desert.

corporate logos are frowned upon as is cash. you can still buy drugs there though but thats against the rules. theyre pretty strict about trying to preserve the principals of the whole event.

not cheap to get out there and its a lot of work but the benefits of attending are second to none. life changing. for those who think taking a psychedelic drug may have altered their outlook on the world, then i would suggest attending this event and you will reap the same rewards (without having to touch a drug or a drop of alcohol - however, these could enhance your experience there if you were that way inclined ;))

The ethos is great but the reality of bouncing about at a festival all day and not being able to grab a bite to eat, cold water or beer without trekking all the way back to your camp would irk me a little.

Sounds cool though definitely would like to go at some point.

its really different to any type of festival though, theres no main stage or line up. nothing like that, its just like one big camping trip in the middle of the desert with 50,000 of your best mates.

dont know where you get the idea of not being able to grab something to eat or get cold water.. people literally give shit away to you there and dont expect anything in return. plenty of food and cold water, but you cant rely on others good will so you need to make sure you bring everything you need to survive for the week in one of the planets harshest climates.

I take it there must be actual stages and tents and stuff though for the acts to play on?

How much is the whole trip costing you?

there are stages and tents but they are all funded, built and ran by the people who attend the festival.. not the organisers. theres literally 100s of little parties and raves throughout the whole place.. its kinda hard to describe

check the videos by sharam for an accurate description and some nice footage.. theres 4 parts - first one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkQ_iPmNVqA

whole trip is costing me too much money because i am going to visit san francisco and las vegas again too and dont really want to travel so far and try and do it on a shoestring - ive been working and saving all year specifically for this trip and for no other reason.... i have to get back there as i missed it in 2009 and it was painful...

flights to the states vary in price but you need to try get close to reno in nevada, if you wanted to do it on the cheap id say the cheapest you could possibly do it on would be as follows

flight to reno (lets assume this costs 500 pounds)
burning man ticket (roughly 200 pounds)
car rental from reno - to drive to burning man (roughly 250 pound for week)
a tent and some camping gear (250 quid-ish)
petrol/food/beer/money for hookers/cheap motel for a night or two - 500 pounds-ish

1250 quid absolute minimum id say... hard to know really...

Too right, no point in going all the way and not hitting Vegas! Good man. :D

£200 for a ticket eh? What happened to the hippy spirit and ethos of the festival that money not wasn't neccessary. :p

Enjoy mate, sounds superb. %)

the 200 quid goes towards a few of the major art projects and installations that are funded and all the other costs that are associated with it - theres a shit load of stuff to burn, fireworks to explode, rangers, law enforcement, toilets etc etc

nothing in life is 100% for free eh ;)

anyway yeah ill move along now... too much chit chat in the photo thread hehe

Mate, i went in 2008 took some mushrooms and ended up in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWQXxMxYGvk

If you are into tripping i URGE you to visit it. I went in it @ night and all i can say was that a huge vortex opened up above me and i felt like i was communicating with some higher species.

My hair before being attacked with straightening irons, I don't always subject it to them, horrid burny things.

I've been growing my hair to donate to locks of love - which is a
non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics.

I think it's time!

It's so thick it could make three!

^^
Oh aye that's cute - very elfin %)

Mine is also messy, gets pinned up for work and i've even taken to putting it in pigtails because it's neat n' off my face - off course the man loves it like that 8) haha

^^ Ha, the amount of times I've wanted to shave my head off.

Girls can easy do a Chelsea cut!

Charity only needs 10 inches though, and I have that already without shaving it!

Ah, I'd miss wearing platted pigtails! It is a great way to get all of your hair out of the way and off face! I'd have to do mini ones!
