I'm still reading through various newbie guides and bulletins, but are there any type of posting restrictions of any sort for a brief period of time as a new member?

Mostly these 3, which as a Greenlighter you can't do yet.

Use the Private Messaging (PM) system, except for sending to and receiving from Moderators and Admins.
Attach files to messages.
Insert hyperlinks or images into posts.

Do you have GIMP, photoshop, paint?

These should suffice.
