I found this site while researching my boyfriend's addiction (opiates, mostly oxy) and I discovered some really helpful information and support on here- even as just a lurker. I have to admit I was pretty uneducated about opiate addiciton, particulary pain meds, and this site has really opened my eyes.

I've experimented with most everything, but at the end of the day I'm just a pothead so I didn't know a whole lot about what my boyfriend was going through. I did HOURS of online research and no other site compares to Bluelight-- I think the personal and first hand stories and experiences that members share help someone like me who didn't know a thing about the subject a year ago.

Anyway, glad to finally be a member!

Welcome to Bluelight:)

Glad you joined you made the right choice I've been on other forums but nothing beats BLUELIGHT!!

I'm sure you Know your way around already you've already got your avatar up but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I'm an opiate addict have been since 15 or so its a rough road I tell you its nothing like pot addiction its so physical and horrible to stop.
Hope you stick around and learn some things here and I wish you and your boyfriend lots of luck for the future ahead of you I hope you both support each other to get through these dark times.

Hi Trainspotter! Thanks for the reply and the offer of help with the site. My boyfriend had/has a pretty high dosage addiction to oxy. He recently started taking suboxone again (he took it a couple years ago but ended up back on the oxy) and it is a struggle. I think we are both lucky in the fact that we have known each other since we were kids and been close friends for decades. We've only been a couple for a year but that trust and friendship foundation is there. I love him and I will support him through anything.

I know his addiciton is debilitating and all consuming for him and the reason I first started coming here was so I could better understand what he is going through. But to my surprise I also found some great insight and support for me-- someone who loves an opiate addict. I know it doesn't compare to the addiction itself, but it's also so difficult to watch someone you love struggle with this. Sometimes I feel so helpless.

I'm going to explore the forums more, but do you know if there is a specific forum for loved ones of addicts?

Thanks for the replies and info everyone! I appreciate the warm welcome and I'll be checking out the forums y'all suggested.

Welcome to Bluelight Lhm, I'm glad to hear that you've found useful information and you're supporting your boyfriend on what I am sure is a tough point in his life. I'm sure that he really appreciates your support and it will mean a lot to him in years to come. :)
