Been on 30 to 40mgs of hydrocodone for about 3.5 years. Had a bilateral hip replacement last August. Hip pain went away..opiate habit did not. I have been buying them off the street for a year or so now, and cannot do that anymore. I am married with two kids. Gonna go cold turkey. Any advice to help with the pain to come would be appreciated. Kinda of worried

Hi,
Welcome to Bluelight!
I also had a spinal surgery and got hooked, put them down picked them up again and am now completely off opiates. Do you have any access to withdrawal meds? Clonidine, Gabapentin? For one check out the Thomas Recipe. Also, pick up some amino acids, loperamide and L Glutamine, L Tyrosine, vitamin b 6 and electrolyte fluids. Eat a lot before you quit, and maybe taper down if you can ime.

Here is the The Opioid Withdrawal Megathread and FAQ. If you were using 40 mg max a day it won't be too difficult but you'll indeed experience withdrawal with a longevity of 3.5 years. :)

Thanks Smoky. I really do appreciate it. I'm on day two c/t. Using loperamide and sone dxm. The dxm has some antihistamines in it. Hate that. Got a few benzos to help with sleep. Can I get dxm with no antihistamines in it? Mods please move this thread of its in the wrong place. Thanks
Edit: how long you been free smoky?

I do know there are various otc forms of DSM. Not sure about the antihistamines, which helped to reduce opiate itching but yeah… not too helpful during withdrawal aside from there other ingredients, which btw did help me tremendously once I kicked for physical symptoms of w/drawal.

I think some of the daytime ones are antihistamine free, if you google it. Iirc.

Thank you for asking, I have been free since August 25th of last year. Feels great to be out of the cycle. Congratulations on day 2! I'll move your thread to another section. :)

An welcome to day #3. Feeling rough but livable. Sleep has sucked, days drag on forever but I hope I'm halfway there. Wish me luck!

Good luck and congrats on day 3! Day 3 and 4 were the hardest for me… after 5 you'll start to feel a little better, at least ime. :)

Day #4. Strange dreams, starting to feel emotions again. Weird how many emotions/nuances of life are blocked out using opiates. Eveything aches. No energy. General feeling of malaise. Loperamide had helped a lot. Still rough. Ready to get this overwith and move on with life. A friend called yesterday and offered a couple pills to help. Funny thing was I didn't even give it a second thought. No thanks just rolled off my tounge. it's weird when you make up your mind to do something and commit to it. I've got too much invested in this to turn back now. i wish the best for all going thru this. It's hell, but I must believe it's worth it

Ok. Here is day 5. Thought I had a breakthrough yesterday but ,alas I started feeling worse in the afternoon than I have all week. I think I'm just gonna take it day by day instead if looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. This sickness seems to be unpredictable. I'm about to go for a walk and play with my 2y/o. Work tomorrrow. I just want to keep looking forward and never look back

Hey louis
congrats on day 5-and on your decision to get off the pills
hopefully on the days that you want to throw in the towel you can look at your kids and know that they are the greatest reason for you to stay clean.
Im pulling fro you!! I dont have any great advice like some of the fantastik folks on this site, but i can tell you that i havent taken a pill for 7 weeks -and im pretty sure that BL is the main reason i have gotten this far
