Heroin Users Handbook

I just read another thread about the Coke Consumer's Guide or something to that effect and it got me thinking about the Heroin Users Handbook. I have read little descriptions and stuff about this book and it sounds interesting, but I can't find it anywhere local. I have found it used online, but it is usually like $60, which I really don't want to spend to find out that it is a useless book filled with basic stuff that i could have read on Wikipedia.

So, has anybody read this book? Any good?

I definitely would not pay $60 for that, but it does look like it would be a very useful guide and an interesting read to have around, from the reviews I read on Erowid.
 
Ya, the way he is doing that shot makes me wonder about the rest of the book. It says it explains how to navigate the heroin subculture and shit like that. It might be kinds interesting, but I wonder if the info in it is really worthwhile or is it just a bunch of useless BS. We need to find somebody that has read it. Where are ya??
 
Please don't ask about where to obtain copyrighted material. If you're interested in these things, you could discuss it outside of BL.

Discussing the book, posting reviews, making other book recommendations are fine...

Isn't that what everyone in the thread is doing?
 
That is obviously just a model on the cover (I hope!). Does make one wonder what tidbits of wisdom are in there. Sounds like a lot to pay for information you can likely get for free right on BL.

No, it was one of the OP's questions. You could see that I edited it out.

I never said everyone was doing it, or that this thread was just about that.
 
It's a pretty good read. I knew alot of information before reading it, but I found it very useful since I hadn't tried heroin at the time. And I did not pay $60 for it...

As for Heroin Handbook, anything claiming to guide you through a subculture will be very dodgy. The only thing universal about heroin addiction is the need and the possible sickness. Scenes are very different in different parts of America, let alone the rest of the world.

I have read alot of excerpts of it but found that those excerpts did not offer me anything new or worthwhile.

The best book by far that I've read about heroin was called "Heroin Century."
I'd recommend it to anyone that's interested in heroin. It details herion's history, distribution, smuggling, laws, effects, etc.

Check it out. I think Google might have a preview of it available.
 
The brand was founded and owned by the head of the Laotian military, General Ouane Rathikone, who shipped via Air America, and this this brand became the first major CIA trafficking connection courtesy of Pop Buell and Uncle Sam...Today the brand is owned by the Wa, who market it out of Lashio and Kokang.

Both purities were/are fantastic but the original one had a short edge because it was made by professional chemists in an actual heroin factory in Laos.

I am now planning on heading up that way actually. I was going to go this past summer but got bogged down here trying to kick the methadone nonsense. I cannot wait...nothing like SE #4.

Ya you're right. I wouldn't trust it to "guide me through" but I just thought it might be interesting and to see if what the book describes is anything like the scenes that I have been involved in myself. I just wonder if there is any info that will make me say, oh wow, I never knew that, or if ti is just gonna be a bunch of shit that I say, ya, no shit, I learned that in my first 6 months of doing H. Probably the former, I would imagine.
