heroin slang: legs

what does it mean when a dealer says that (his current stock of) heroin "has serious legs"? I've seen this a few times now but have never been clear just what gives.

It's how people refer to how long a batch will keep them well. I would assume that the legs have something to do with purity, but also possibly the phenotype/extraction technique--leading to different exact ratios of minor alkaloids.
