heroin intravenously and today they shot up and immediately got a sharp warm pain through out whole arm and rashes all over arm popped up and their hand swelled up. What could the cause of this be?

Yeah, you missed a shot. Must have been quite a bit of fluid.

You'll probably be fine. If you develop an abcess or any signs of infection after about three hours (redness, heat, swelling, pain at injection site) then go to the hospital. But if it just stays swollen (for up to a full day) don't worry too much about it

That's a good thing. Try to massage it, this will help the fluid absorb into your muscles. It should go away in a few hours. Next time, make sure you're in the vein. ;)

If you missed youd havê felt an immediate pain on the iv site as you pressed the plunger, and youd notice the region swelling (from the liquid under your skin). To me it sounds like you havê hit an artery, as you said your hand got swollen. It should go back to normal in like 30 mins. Youll be fine ive done it before and it was exactly the same... Rash, pins and needles, swollen hand , no rush but got high.

You just hit the nail on the head! ^...is hitting a artery because I'm missing the vein or what?

Arteries run away from the heart, veins run to the heart. This is why you never want to hit an artery. Can I ask where you shot up?

This happened about 3 hours ago. All the swelling is gone and everything I just wanted to know what had happened.

As wez said, arteries take the blood away from your heart, and in this case, towards your hand, thats why it got swollen and there was no rush - the heroin instead of going to your heart and then straight to the brain went to your hand and got absorbed by the tissue there.

Arteries have pulse as opposed to veins and they say arterial blood is brighter. That could help you differentiating between them. I know the times i shot in an artery i couldve sworn i had hit a vein tho...

Stay safe man

Like you said could have swore I Hit a vein. But it was just more,of a scary situation then painful.

I've had this happen as well.
Like not a miss.
I thought it was from a cut in the dope
