Hey...

I was thinking about a theory and I wonder if it would work...

if a friend of mine was ODing on opiates, and I slipped 8mg of suboxone under his tongue, would that cure him?

Suboxone is a partial antagonist and a partial agonist with a super high affinity so it should kick out all the heroin/OC receptors adn replace it... right? And since it has a ceiling effect they probably wont OD from it.

What do you guys think?? Is this true? I'd feel pretty bad if a friend was ODing and I gave him 8mg of this opiate, and it just tweaked him out even furtgher and killed him lol

Im not planning on ODing, or hanging out with someone that will be ODing anytime soon but I was just curious. You never know where the future will lead me and its interesting to know if my subs would work like that.

Suboxone tablets contain a 4:1 ratio of buprenorphine to naloxone respectively. I do not believe that buprenorphine itself would be able to cure an OD, and naloxone is inactive when taken orally.

If you have a friend who is OD'ing on opiates, your best bet is to take him to a hospital. There he can get some IV naloxone, which has full mu-opioid antagonist effects.

Im pretty sure that would work in an emergency obviously you would rather use narcan though

but that doesn't mean you should try it though I just think theoretically it could work but harm reduction would be to either have narcan or if not call 911 immediately. Because if it doesn't work you would be screwed since the bupe binds stronger than the naloxone which is what is in narcan if Im not mistaken so if it didn't work the doctors wouldn't be able to use narcan to save them.
