Cheboygan County-Sheriff Dale Clarmont stated his department was dispatched to Cheboygan Memorial Hospital Emergency Department on January 29, 2011 at 5:49 am on the report of a suspicious death.

Sheriff Clarmont stated that the responding deputies were advised by hospital staff that an unknown male subject had brought a female subject to the Emergency Department of the hospital and then had fled the scene without identifying himself or the victim.

Through investigation the female was later identified as Heather Louise Wright, 31 YOA, from Cheboygan.

Sheriff Clarmont said “The investigation turned into a homicide investigation after detectives conferred with Cheboygan County Medical Examiner, Dr. Donald Ramsay and a forensic autopsy at Spectrum Hospital, in Grand Rapids revealed that Wright died of a heroin drug overdose”.

Sheriff Clarmont said deputies executed search warrants at 2 separate residences over the weekend where additional evidence of the homicide and illegal drug use was confiscated. “The continuing investigation has led to the arrest of several local and out-of-area subjects with more arrests and additional charges anticipated” said Clarmont.

confused-29.gif

I guess doing the right thing doesn't always pay..... fuck those cops

im the victims cousin. theres more to the story. like Heroin wasnt her drug of choice. she also had many broken ribs, both wrists were broken and bruises all over her body. Dale had knocked her out n shot her up n then dumped her deceased body at the hospital like garbage.

^ Are you fuckin serious? That's not cool, at all. If you are in fact her cousin and that's the real story then I have no love for this guy who got charged. It sounds a bit strange tho...beat someone up, shoot em up with heroin then take them to the hospital?

Odd...

its true. straight from the police report. i would mention more but what i have is already pushing it. there was money involved. my cousin got a settlement of some kind n got a lot of money. her brother n his wife can only account for some of it so they're thinkin the bf n friends stole some or something like that. she was clean for 2 yrs when she died. the only thing she did was drink. no drugs at all.

If this is the case, then it is sad that this news article was written like it was, or written at all.

What I mean is, it may discourage people from calling 911 in the event of an OD (as seen by other posts), in fear that they may be criminally held liable.

Some states are going in the opposite direction, and trying to encourage dialing 911 in the event of an OD, by not charging people with possession of small quantities of drugs when the police and paramedics arrive. I believe it is under the Good Samaritan Law.

In any event, I am sorry for your loss.

thanks. from my understanding no one didn't even try to call 911. just drove to the ER n dropped her off n then he took off out of state

This story is just a tragedy. For both parties, if he did have enough sense to drive her to the ER then he shouldn't be getting charged for dropping off an OD victim at the hospital. On the other hand, if he forced her to do the drugs then I am sure there are other statutes that he can be charged under. Espically if he beat her and made her do that, and from what you said he apparently stole money too.

It sounds to me (from your info) that this guy beat her half to death, stole her money, faked an overdose and dropped her off at the hospital to avoid suspicion. If that is in fact the case, I pray to God that he gets convicted and sent to a 6x10 for the rest of his life.

Very sorry for your loss

I have no sympathy for people who don't call 911 when they can. Good Samaritan law or no Good Samaritan law. Just bite the bullet and do the time.

i have less sympathy for anybody who supports a law that makes somebody choose between several years in prison and saving an acquaintance or friend.

I had two old using buddies that got charged with drug induced homicide for a sketchy OD that killed another old friend. One got 10 years and just got out a couple weeks ago, the other got 12 years. Sometimes I don't know what to think about the penalties. This type of law seems to have been used more and more frequently as of late.

wow sorry for your loss cuz.... I never thought somebody would commit man-slaughter by intentionally staging an OD.....

Can you get fucked for bringing a (lets say girl over 18) to the ER , if you have been using with her? Why do ppl run to begin with?

This is going to set a bad precedent. People are going to die because nobody wants to get arrested trying to do the right thing. The stupidity is strong with this case.

damn, I just read the entire comments section to the article posted and it reads like a Jerry Springer episode!

teri has been kind enough to shed some more light on to this case than what was initially reported (not much); but honestly, I don't know who to believe here

False-cousin is false

In an instant opinions are formed and judgments are made…The people who write the stories and articles do not know the whole story and it is not really their job to advocate for the truth. I do know and I want to share what I know the truth to be.
I don’t know all of the people involved but I do know Dale and I am asking that you please hear me out. I don’t mean to offend anyone by this post and if I do, please forgive me. I appreciate perspective but I am going to respectfully request that if you happen to be offended or mad, please do not reply with hurtful comments. The comments do just that…they hurt and there is already so much pain associated with this situation. I know that my feelings don’t change the situation and I probably won’t change anyone else’s opinions but I just felt convicted to share some of my thoughts/knowledge about this…..

I have to be honest and say that if I did not know all of the contributing factors about this situation, I would probably be judging them myself. I am a very black and white personality and others perceive me as judgmental at times so I am working on that. I just want to help…Knowing what I know, I am forced to look at the situation differently and check myself now and in the future when I am tempted to participate in the judgmental comments or say something for the sole purpose of self-satisfaction.

Dale Moody and Heather wright lived together for several years and loved each other. Last year, they had a daughter who passed away from a congenital heart defect(believe it or not, it was not related to illegal substance abuse).
They received a large monetary settlement associated with the death of their daughter. The depression, the resources to fund the addictions and the abuse that Dale endured as a youth are a few of the factors that I know, that exacerbated the addictions and substance abuse. I realize that not everyone who goes through situations similar to what they went through makes the same choices but, no one can say what they would do because no one has had the exact same circumstances and has felt their pain. Everyone makes mistakes, and bad decisions at times in their life. Luckily, most of them do not result in the loss of a life or anything remotely close to that severe. That being said, I do realize that this circumstance does involve someone losing their life and that makes it much harder to relate to.

I know Dale well, I know his heart and I know that he does not want to be an addict. I also know that he loved Heather. When there are two addicted people, then they have to be separated and go on each their own path to recovery, because recovery is about putting self first and healing. People do not recover with an addict in active addiction, the pull of the drugs is far stronger than a simple desire to get better. If one uses, likely both will. Getting well means, in part, removing oneself from all addicts, surrounding oneself with people in recovery.
I know that Dale would not have left Heather for anything. That being said, I don’t think he knew what to do or how to get help for Heather, his family or himself. The desire to get healthy was there but not the commitment.

The newspaper articles paint a picture of EVIL and intent to harm Heather. This is not the case. Dale was not a drug dealer. He was a drug addict. Dale told the truth about what happened and The charges that Dale is facing are because he told the truth about the choices he made and the actions he took. Dale is the person who made the telephone call to request the drugs.
Dale also drove Heather to the hospital when she Overdosed. Could he have done things better? Yes, he could have called 911. He did what he thought was best in the moment and the damage was done. It was another bad decision after the fact but it is important to remember that drug addicts do not think like a sober person.
Now, do I feel that Dale is exempt from being held responsible for his decisions? Absolutely not. I know that Dale needs to get help and I know that he is wrong for the choices that he has made. Dale also knows that. I do not feel that it is Dale’s fault that Heather is dead. It is a sad reality of drug addiction and very common of Heroin use.

If you or your family have been blessed enough to be spared the pain that substance abuse cause, you are the exception. Over 23 Million Americans are drug/alcohol dependent(about 1 in 10 over the age of 12 years old). And only 10% of them are seeking help at this time. There is no cure. Only treatment for addiction.

To me, the phrase “personal accountability” means WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE or INSPIRE A CHANGE?
I understand that not everyone shares my faith but I am going to say this to those that do…..
Dale and Heather were sinners, and reality check so are we! While they may have made bad/destructive decisions our God still loves them and we are COMMANDED by God to love them as well. Each and every believer is called to love his brother and this is stated multiple times in the New Testament. The bible also says that if you do not love your brother, you are not a true follower of Christ. Read 1John 1-5 for more on this. If posting judgement and negativity on message boards is bringing you Joy, I would encourage you to stop and reflect because what good can it bring? We should build people up, not tear them down. We love a God who is sovereign, faithful, just and GOOD!

If you do pray, please pray for all of the families who are affected by substance abuse and specifically this family.

IN ADDITION, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT, THE PERSON WHO STATES TO BE HEATHER'S COUSIN IS INCORRECT WITH MANY OF HER ALLEGED FACTS.
HEATHER AND DALE WERE BOTH ADDICTS AND TO SAY THAT DALE SHOT HEATHER UP ONCE SHE PASSED OUT OR WAS "KNOCKED OUT" IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.I TOO AM A FAMILY MEMBER AND WHILE I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY AND VERY FRUSTRATING, I DO NOT BLAME HEATHER FOR DALES ADDICTION, NOR DO I BLAME DALE FOR HEATHER'S DEATH.

I AM NOT SURE WHERE "TERI" GOT THE POLICE REPORT THAT SHE READ BUT CONTRARY TO HER COMMENTS OF BROKEN RIBS AND WRISTS, THE REPORT DOES NOT MENTION ANY BROKEN RIBS OR BONES FOR THAT MATTER. IT DOES HOWEVER MENTION NORMAL POST MORTEM BRUISING ON HER BACK.
I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND THE INTENSE DESIRE TO POINT A FINGER AND OR BLAME SOMEONE? DALE AND HEATHER WERE ADULTS WHO MADE BAD CHOICES. THEY ARE INDIVIDUALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS. IF A COURT OF LAW FINDS DALE GUILTY OF THE CHARGES, I SUPPORT THAT BECAUSE IT IS A COURT OF LAW AND NOT A FORUM WHERE A FEW PEOPLE WHO KNOW FRACTIONS OF THE STORY OR THE TRUTH PASS THEIR JUDGEMENT.

you are a dumbass, damn trolls... Even if u are her cousin, your story is such NONSENSE that no one in the right mind would believe you...

i have less sympathy for anybody who supports a law that makes somebody choose between several years in prison and saving an acquaintance or friend.

Nobody supports the law yo. Who said they support it? Nobody. All he said was that REGARDLESS of the law you still better call fuckin 911.

Cuz guess wat? You aint GOTTA do no prison time. You can fuckin hide the dope, or flush it, or WTF ever, before the cops get there. People act like "cant call 911, cuz i dont wanna catch a dope charge", well then get rid of the fuckn dope before you call. Thats wat I did when I was in that situation, and when I OD'd, thats wat my man did.

You aint gotta choose between gettin arrested and callin 911 if you got a lil bit of sense in your head.

but for the record, let me still say that I still think we need more good samaritan laws to protect people who call 911 for OD's, cuz not everybody can think straight and some people will just get shook and leave the scene , not realizing that theres a way to save their friends ass while still protecting their own.

regardless of the laws that we do or dont got tho, I still think you fucked up if you dont call 911 for your peoples when you OD. There is few things more shitty, low down dirty than leavin your boy/girl to die when they OD and haulin ass outta there when you coulda saved their life without puttin any risk to your own. Shit, if anything, if you really shook, call 911 or bring em to the hospital and tell them you are a passer by and dont know wat happened (if its in a public place.) Man, you a junkie, you can lie, come up with some shit, you know?

The bottom line is you can still do the right thing without puttin yourself out and there aint no excuse not to. You can only blame the law so much for not takin action.

dont get it twisted tho--Thats my viewpoint when it comes to personal responsibility. when it comes to the law, i think the law IS fucked up, and it does discourage people from doin the right thing, absolutely. Im sayin that while I feel like, my personal view on it is that you need to call 911, when it comes to whether or not the law is right I still think its wrong. So dont take my post the wrong way--theres 2 parts to this issue--wat you should do if it was you, and the law itself and how wrong/right it is, so Im just tellin my view on both of em, feel me?

...................................

BTW, i got one question for teri, the supposed cousin,....you said heroin wasnt her drug of choice then you say "she been clean for 2 years"....clean off wat? Im assuming dope...so dope WAS her DOC, she just was clean off it.

A ex dope feen who had been clean awhile OD'ing on dope makes a lot more sense than somebody who never used dope in their life ODing on it.

You made it sound like she was this non drug user who never used dope who suddenly suspiciously had heroin in her system, but that obviously wasnt the case, she WAS a heroin addict, so that takes away from your credibility a lot.

It sounds like you wanna point a finger yo....People always do that when theres a couple with heroin involved. The parents of the girl blame the boy. the parents of the boy blame the girl. The other one always "made" their baby do it, got them into it, gave them the drugs...The family never seems to be able to believe that the dead person possibly coulda chose to use those drugs themself, it always gotta be somebody else made em do it. Just accept that the person you loved was a heroin addict, I know its hard to do but dont be blamin somebody else for your loved ones addiction, other people mighta influenced her along the way but in the end, the choice was her own. That shit is hard as hell to accept but you dont gain yourself no credibility by tryna blame other people and make it look like she was this innocent chick who didnt have a damn thing to do with none of it. You are manipulatin the facts to make it into a story that you would rather believe than the story that happened, so that it dont hurt so much.

Its much easier to believe that this girl was a innocent non drug user who got beat up , murdered and then shot up with heroin to make a fake OD story by her evil boyfriend, than to believe she was a junkie who relapsed, shot up dope, and OD'd and died. But until you stop blamin and accept the truth about that shit you just as bad as all the addicts in denial. :\
