Heroin/Opiate Cough

After snorting heroin (brown and black tar if it makes a difference), i have been developing a nasty cough/shortness of breath that kicks in maybe an hour or two after dosing and hang around for hours.

I had asthma when i was little, and though most of my symptoms are gone with age, i guess its possible theres a connection. my albuterol inhaler provides only temporary relief from dope coughs and has to be reused far more often than it should.

I used to only get coughs maybe 2 or 3 hours after drinking poppy pod tea, but recently heroin has been giving me the same effect too. i have not noticed this occuring with any pharmaceutical opiates (not yet anyway). anyone know anything about this or have any advice?

This sounds a bit like asthma to me. Even if most of your symptoms have diappeared for a while, dope is notoriously rough on the nasal passage, lungs, and respiration in general. The ironic thing is that heroin SHOULD be an antitussive, ideally, but the sheer harshness of dope and its cuts mean that your nose will be clogged, possibly for days after each use. there definitely is a connection, as you suspected.

I found that getting an Afrin nasal spray bottle, emptying the contents, rinsing the bottle well, and re-filling it with dope and warm water helped to get rid of some of the nasty coughworthy effects of snorting the dope. It won't get rid of your cough or shortness of breath entirely, but it does help a bit, since some of the nastier byproducts won't dissolve into the water. Alternately you could try plugging the powder after diluting it in water and that may help a bit, or switching to kratom tea or pharmaceuticals if you are not willing to give up the dope...but ultimately NOT snorting or inhaling heroin will be the only thing that makes you truly get over this problem.

Have you considered dosing 15-30 mg DXM an hour before doing your dope? This would potentiate the high and possibly help with the cough, and OTC inhalers might take care of the shortness of breath..but be careful not to get dependent on these OTC remedies too!

I have a reasonably similar story, sat here with what feels like a chest infection, runny nose, feeling sick, dehydrated etc...

Been trying to place my finger on what might have caused it, but tbh it could be any of the following

First of all there's the stupid idea of snorting pills (I'm completely through with that after this weekend), for some reason my nasal passages seemed extremely open and if I didn't snort VERY VERY lightly I could feel it going up my nose and down my throat making me gag and cough for a while.

Secondly there's just plain being up all that night on speed and chain smoking.

Lastly there's the 12 hours of smoking heroin trying to come down....

Pure speculation, but I'd guess the pill dust did most of it, heavy smoking sessions don't usually tend to mess me up this much.

^Oillusion has a good point...being up all night and chain smoking could contribute to the coughing, too. Opiate users (as a general stereotype) aren't always the healthiest bunch, and if you're like me, you tend to chain-smoke, eat unhealthy foods, drink sodas and other acidic drinks, etc. while under the influence, all of which could contribute to extreme coughing.

advise, stop taking opiates while ur ahead/behind.

I was hospitalized x2 for this. My CO2 levels were at 76 at one point (should be 97-100) and I had to keep my knees to my chest so that the air didn't have to go so far to reach my lungs.

It happened while a snorted and then again after switching to IV (because I thought it was the snorting). Nevertheless, I used Albuteral constantly which helped for short periods of time. It had gotten to the point where I couldn't walk because I couldnt breathe. The only thing that helped was prednisone and albuterol in combination.

What I found was that if I used, especially before bed or laying down, it would be much, much worse. You need to slow way down, let it clear up and try not to use before sleeping. It only started to ease up for me when I did this.

I don't know why but heroin would cause extra mucous fluids in my sinus' which would inevitably end up in my chest. And this sounds like what is happening to you.

I don't think its just the snorting itself which is the problem, as poppy pod tea gives me andeven worse cough than the heroin, and i gave up cigarettes (mostly) a year ago, though i still do smoke weed. Pukingcells, sounds to me like you have the same problem I do, good to know I'm not alone with it.

I have the same condition as what pukincell described about that i don't know what happens but it happens that you can't even walk because you fear that you will run out of breath and another thing with this shortness of breathe is that you can't even lay down on the bed you have to sit and hope that you just keep breathing it's like you're beggin for air for you body the air is there but somehow the dope is blocking it and I have no idea why does this happen and it's scary as hell cause we basically live on air so if there's no air in the body we are done while this happens to me I think bout that someone is telling us don't do dope and I know that this only happen when you have done dope So we can't ask for a treatment cause the treatment is don't do dope but it's freakin scary

Yeah it's definately the dope, I used to have the same problem, and so did a friend. He actually ended up in the hospital because he coughed a golf ball sized hole in his lung...I thought it was just because he sniffed all his dope and it was coating his lungs, but then it happened to me too, and I am an IV user. For me, I started to cough a couple hours before I was about to go into W/Ds so it was just kind of a sign that I needed to dose again, sleeping was def the worst so I'd actually recommend re-dosing right before you go to be, but hey, everybody is different. Eventually, it just stopped happening for me, but I had in no way cut down in my usage, if anything it increased. All I can say is play around with your ROA and monitor yourself to see when it comes on, and how you can most effectively make it go away.

Unfortunately IV'ing affects the lungs as well, as insoluble cuts can accumulate in the lungs eventually causing talcosis.

idk why it happens but when i do a fatty shot of black tar i cough and feel my breathing depressed. I think it might be because my body is tryin to breath, but idk.
