Heroin heroin OD unpleasant?

Well I think it only hurts like a motherfucker when you survive an od of heroin. If you were to die, there would be no pain as others have said.

Personally If I was going to kill myself (which I hopefully won't do anytime soon), i'd first shoot a normal amount of dope to be feeling good, just enough so I can still function and then, maybe 15 mins after the dope or so, with another preloaded syringe I'd finish off the job with Midazolam, a barb or other anaesthetic. I think that'd be the most peaceful, harmless way to go. Although the second choice of drugs aren't overly common to possess I think if I really wanted to kill myself i'd take the time out to do it well.

Are you an Iv user? if so, stop IVing. That's step 1.

went from regular sniffer to regular iver to reglar sniffer to suoxone to subutex to subutex (both sublingual, both acquiring by myself) and very occasional sniffer then on 2nd once a month sniff day of dope to more or less daily for the past week. Have always been an 'abuser' and not dependent on the heroin, mostly like 2 days a week, longest is like 9 or 10 days straight. Still have my subutex but since I picked up a gram like 2 weeks ago or whatever then a few days later another gram, (use g a day or less), cpl days later 2 grams, cpl days later 1/2 finger---I'll finish off today and go back to subutex, which I found happiness on at 4mg day 1st time in my entire life and am in mid 40's. But for me abuse vs dependence is semantics, it's problematic use. I used low dose subutex which brought me happiness, with heroin haven't been able to use it that way, or other opiates except for something like a perc script

Sometimes when I've smoked a lot of tar like a half gram of good shit with a moderate tolerance I get this feeling that if I fall asleep or close my eyes I might not wake up. Is there any proof that sleeping increases the risk of death, or is the fact I can think this mean I'm not close?

It's true that if you think someone has OD'd you wanna try to wake them up and get them walking around (that's what slapping them and throwing cold water on them is about) because yea, when you nod out, your breathing gets shallower than when you're awake.

But, the fact that you are capable of keeping your self awake means that you're no where close. i used to nod out standing up sometimes, once i broke a mirror with my head while putting makeup on =D. But even then when i couldn't keep my eyes open i don't think i was close to OD, I wasn't even nauseous at all.

I've OD'd a few times- fortunately consistantly around hardcore junkies who have naloxone for 'emergencies' ;). How painful/unpleasant it is seems to depend on how much of a tolerance you have and whether or not you're physically addicted.

Basically:
* if you have no tolerance it's like a sledgehammer to the face- you might have a couple of seconds to say 'fuck', but that's about it then black.
* If you have a tolerance, but are not physically addicted, you probably get the worst of it- you won't lose consciousness as quickly, though you will be unable to move/nodding hard you'll still be with it enough to know that your breathing is getting shallower and shallower, you may well feel strong histamine-type effects (feeling extremely hot, pins and needles etc). Naloxone (the thing that saves you) makes you feel like shit- addiction or no, I think that a lot of the unpleasantness is a lesson in irony from naloxone.
* If you're an addict you have the above experience, minus the bad parts- it's definately not 'painful', though you may be 'with it' enough to know something is going wrong. On the other hand, Naloxone throws you into instant precipitated W/D so you have a nice little present waiting for you if you do survive. The worst thing, as bad as it sounds, is having to wait a few hours before you can use again- you're in full-blown W/D, but you have to wait for the naloxone to 'wash out' of your opiate receptors before using will actually do anything.

Also- the shittiness depends on what you're overdosing on- heroin is the 'best/least worst' to OD on (in my experience) because it's fairly fast-acting and has very little in the way of a histamine-effect compared to, say, morphine. Overdosing on methadone is fucking shithouse- never had it happen to me (would have had to go to hospital for that), but friends have OD'd on methadone- they have to repeatedly give you naloxone (yay!) over the course of 4-8 hours before they can release you without having to worry that you'll simply OD in the parking lot (It's still in your body, if not your brain, but it can get back in there if you don't get given naloxone repeatedly). That's got to be the closest thing to medical torture I can think of- repeatedly giving a highdose-methadone addict naloxone for a methadone overdose.
