Harm Reduction heroin od/paralysis

Hi-not sure where I should post this but Im hoping one of the moderators will redirect it if this is the wrong place. My son took a Heroin/methadone od last wednesday and was found on the floor of his room the following day. He had got up from his computer desk the previous nite, his leg was dead and he fell onto the floor and passed out lying on his forearm and lay there undiscovered for approx 10 hrs. He has been in hospital since then and is suffering from paralysis of the forearm and one of his legs-the other leg is affected to a lesser extent. Has anyone heard of this happening before or can anyone shed any light on it for me please?

It happens. Perhaps a lack of blood flow or a pinched nerve?(Just guesses)

I can't speculate on whether it's permanent or not.

I've seen it happen to someone; they lost the ability to move their leg and it got back to normal after a couple of weeks.

I have no idea at all as to what this could be, and I wouldn't want to even speculate; but I will say this, that I think it's pretty cool you would do a bit of online research, then go so far as to register a bluelight account and create a new thread all out of concern for your son. I'm thinking that someone deserves just a little more than another candle or ugly tie for next years mothers or fathers day. ;)

This happened to a friend of mine with a really bad drinking problem, fell asleep on his arm woke up and he couldnt use it.
Id have to assume things change on a case by case basis but my friend had to go to physical therapy and over time he regained must, but not all, of the functionality of his arm
 
As others have said, I have to commend you as a parent for signing up on a site like this out of concern for your son. I wish more parents in this world were like yourself.

I do wish all the best to your son and your family and with all my heart hope that a full recovery is made.

I wish I could contribute more, but at least know you have my thoughts and condolences.
 
I hate to join the bandwagon but in actuality, I love it. I think its responsible and loving of you to honestly attempt to help your son. You're a good parent and that is rare these days :) I hopehe gets the use of his limbs back, I've never been in such a position or known someone in such a position. Thanks, I wish people in my (blood related) family were like that.
 
sry to hear that,it happened to me twice,from methadone n benzo's,the 1st time i od'd and fell on the floor and woked up 4 hrs later with my left leg beneath me and couldn't feel it(i had to do exercises n sh*t and the full recovery of the leg took 3 weeks,the 1st week i couldn't do absolutley anything with it,completely numb) and the 2nd time it happened it was from the same stuff(few months apart between the incidents) i od'd and feel to the floor for 6 hrs with my right leg underneath me and the recovery took a good month and a bit and was the last time i mixed those together(methadone with a lot of benzo's and amytryptyline) and today i only do methadone and haven't done benzo's in a good 5 months and won't,so whether it is a leg or a hand it will gain full recovery of them soon,though i still have some cramps in the morning on my right leg..so it never worth the "fun",hope he will be ok
 
i've fallen asleep (nodded, non fatal OD) a few times ans had my arm fall asleep and not gaining near full feeling for quite a few hours after, full feeling a good month or so later. i've also fallen asleep in such a position it stretched my shoulder out to a point where it had stretched tendons and what i think was a pinched nerve as well - the nerve pain took well over a month to recover. had feet fall asleep as well, get up only to fall straight back down. these were never from proper overdoses, just nodding out and taking a little too much,

when i have OD'd it just been hit the floor, wake up a few hours later with a throbbing head, nauseous, and the rest of the good feelings.

i wish your son a speedy recovery and good on you for coming to bluelight and reach out to us:)
