Last Saturday I overdosed on heroin. I had previously been clean for about two weeks, found some dope in my house and shot it. Guess i passed out, my mother said she came home to find me passed out and not breathing with my eyes rolled back into my head. Long story short 911 was called, I was given narcan, ect. With seven police officers inside of my house, they asked me if there was anything I wanted before i was carried out of my house into the ambulance. I asked my mother to grab my wallet, which was sitting on the table where I had overdosed. She grabbed it, then a cop proceeded to snatch it out of her hands, and asked me if it was ok to check thru it for drugs. Not thinking about it because of the stupor I was in, I said ok. There were no drugs in there, but about 1500 cash. The money was "seized as evidence" along with half a bag I hadnt shot and my insurance card, on which the dope was sitting on. The cops then proceeded to search thru my house for more drugs and questioned my aunt and mother, both whom I live with. Amongst the things NOT taken from the house, was a large container with weed residue and many baggies inside. They def saw it, but didnt take it. But they took a cut up milk carton used as a gravity bong (lol), my money, and the dope.
My question is, since they were supposed to be responding to an overdose, did they have the legal right to search thru my whole house, take my money, and not give my family any type of receipt for it? I don't have a job; most of the money was obtained from borrowing it, or by other means (i think you can discern what I mean). Why the fuck would they leave so much paraphernalia behind but take other things? This whole situation has been confusing the daylights outta me. I just wanna know if I can get my damn money back. It's all I had.
