Heroin Heroin in movies and real life

Why are you not supposed to heat cocaine?

I would think any medical professional would tell you to heat it to sterilize it but as someone already pointed out, you would have to heat it for a while to make it sterile and you may loose stuff in the process. I don't necessarily believe you loose anything because I have done both heated and not and I myself can't tell the difference. It may because I don't heat it very long, just until everything dissolves and not always to boiling. As I stated I only do it to use less water for a smaller rig.

^^

The low level of heat obtained by using a flame first of all isn't enough to actually kill any bacteria. You'd literally have to cook it for fifteen minutes and by that time, it would be gone. Heat is not how you sterilize. You use isopropyl alcohol to clean whatever you are prepping your shot in, the injection site, etc. That is how you stay sterile.

Like heroin, cocaine is incredibly soluble in water. You don't use heat coke for the same reason you don't for H. You don't need it. The active ingredient already breaks down in water, which means the remaining product is all cut.. crap you do not want injected. Using a filtration system then allows you to only draw up the active solution.

Heating water allows more of anything soluble in water to dissolve in it and it is universal for any substance. A substances solubility differs with temp but heating the water as opposed to not heating is not going to "separate" the good from the bad. I think the main reason some people may still heat is to use less water, which gives you a better hit. The same amount dissolved in a cc of water will not give the same effect if it were dissolved in 10cc of water because of the length of time it would take to inject the 10cc compared to the 1cc. It's the same reason hospitals always inject slowly and the effects are less then if they injected the same amount faster.

Someone mentioned that some may do it for sterilization purposes and that heating is not needed when using a micron filter but the best filter I know of only filters to .2 microns and some bacteria and most viruses are less then .1 micron. There isn't a filter made that can filter out everything and it is why the ones that do usually have an iodine or similar component to kill whatever the filter doesn't filter.

As the OP mentioned some types like black tar have to be heated. Heroin differs throughout the world with some powders being a HCL form and other being a base form. HCL forms being far more soluble in water don't need to be heated where the base forms are not as soluble and do as well as adding something acidic to help it dissolve in water.

This is just plain crazy. Science has clearly proven that solubility changes with temperature.

Why do you think you use near freezing water to extract opiates from pills containing apap...

Tar does not have to be heated... In fact tar is the worst thing you can heat.

Viruses are very likely not to be in street drugs due to exposure to the oxygen in the air... This should be the least of your or anyone's concern.

One shouldn't have to use over .5 cc to inject the average dose of heroin... A lot of people including myself like to use more water as it leaves room for proper dosing. This means less chance of severely overdosing.

Also, drugs need to be injected slowly to prevent pressure damage to the lining of the veins. Also, a lot of drugs are very corrosive, and high concentrations lead to tissue damage.

I urge everyone to ensure your future by not following old willie at the corner shooting up... Research and find out how to properly use any drug you may encounter. If the moment jumps in your face, you can in fact say no, or buy it and save it to use after you research. Don't just shove shit into your body that you have no knowledge how to properly prepare.

Stay safe, I love you all.

Id recommend a sticky about this subject if there isn't one already. Seems to be a thread every week that either starts with the discussion of cooking dope or leads to the discussion of cooking dope.

I understand the IV complications thread must cover this topic but I was thinking "DON'T COOK YOUR DOPE" for a thread title.

I got this from an article posted at the fix, this info is given quite often in the media.
(this has been posted here before, just using it for example)

Annet Davis-Vogel has watched the bacterial infection crisis unfolding in real time. A registered nurse, social worker and the project director of the University of Pennsylvania’s HIV Prevention Research Division, she’s been on Philly’s streets and in its shooting galleries advising addicts on safe injection practices since the 1990s.

“You’re going to get an abscess here,” Davis-Vogel said gently, pointing to a raw, bleeding hole on the back of the man’s hand into which he had just emptied a syringe of heroin. “If you don’t start using a different vein, it’s going to get infected,” she told him. "Do you have another vein that you can use? Do you cook your dope? I’m not trying to sound like your mom, but it’s really important to do these things if you don’t want to get an abscess.”

That’s why they're called ‘cookers,’” Davis-Vogel said. “You cook your dope because cooking kills bacteria.”

Unfortunately I too ran into an old willie type character before coming to BL. Its a bit ironic but I guess it was better that I rarely had spoons/cooker then and just used the cap to my dasani water.

nice post, u2(stay safe)
