ok so recently ive just been kinda forced to get sober. I tried quiting cold turkey on monday but the withdrawels were just to intense. i was using around a gram a day of black tar heroin. Well the last four days ive kind of weened myself down. Tuesday i used around .2 in the afternoon. wed morning i was deathly ill. i used another .1 that afternoon. then yesterday i used around .2 and today i used about .18 my question is have i weened m dose down long enough to where the withdrawels will probably be a little more tolerable. ive been trying to space my uses as far apart as possible too and i have been trying to use as little as possible each dose. i just want to be able to finally stop cold turkey and not have to worry about feeling like im going to die and be able to get through these with just some otc medications.
 
Yea, your withdrawals will be more 'tolerable'. Withdrawals are never really tolerable for me. At least not heroin withdrawals.

The longer and lower you go without slipping the more 'tolerable' it will be.
 
I just did my fifth day clean man. From a 30 oxy 80 a day habit. You can do it just wean like you have bee man...
 
if you have that "forced" attitude, why not just go with methadone replacement?

the only time i've ever faced opioid withdrawal was after my ACL and meniscus surgery, my doc was very carefree about opioids and allowed me to take 15 mg hydrocodone 2-3x daily for about 2 weeks. i know it's like lighting a candle compared to the sun, but i can slightly sympathize with what you're feeling.
 
This hasn't been proven by a doctor but I believe using ultram (tramadol) actually helped me from detoxing when i couldn't find any opiates. Perhaps it could help you through detox. Addiction to tramadol is a lot easier to beat them heroin.
 
Any lesser strength opiate CAN be used to help detox but methadone is a good choice, as its strong yet more controlable. For 1 cold turkey is stopping all use not weening or using lesser drugs that are easier on the withdrawls and with heroin cold turkey is not a great move. Doctors can prescribe a medicine plan if youre honest about your problem and severity.
Your best hope is a longer term ween, eg slowly decreasing frequency and amount over time to minimize both mental and physical strains . If all else fails separate yourself from any contact from users dealers anything regaurding dope and get new friends that are clean and positive, and get to rehab. Nomatter what you should rid yourself of peers that use/deal/or talk about dope while getting friends with a different lifestyle.
