Heroin and sleep paralysis?

i've had a few cases of sleep paralysis i believe. it's always the same. when i wake up from my sleep for the first 2-3 seconds before my eyes get adjusted i'll look at whatever direction my head is lying and i'll see very distinct images of menacing things. like people peeking up over items and staring at me and it's the most horrifying thing i've ever felt. it only lasts a couple seconds though, and then my eyes adjust and i realize my mind was only playing games with me. not sure if that's SP or not. i've never experienced it during drug use either. i've noticed that when i've used h during a day, or even the day after, i continue to have those crazy waking dreams when i'm laying down trying to fall asleep. it's quite amazing. in my last one i looked up at the ceiling to see it boiling and rippling and i immediately thought to myself that i was tripping on acid, then i rolled off my bed and all of my limbs were numb and felt nothing and i thought i was really in bad shape that my fall didn't register any feeling at all...then i opened my eyes and realized none of it had happened at all. so much fun :D

I just hate to see the posts I make after I have taken my sleep-med combo. Thats what happens when one needs a shot glass full of pills to sleep8(

Funny this thread got bumped... I thought I was over the hole SP period, for most people who have it it vanishes aftertheir 21st birthday at the latest... Week before last though, I had used vast amounts of Ketamine, 650mg orally and 120mg intranasally at once, it occured again. Long after I came out of the k-hole (wouldn't even call it a hole with oral administration, booooring), I felt asleep. I had a nightmare and woke back up:

I found myself eating my left wrist while my legs were pointing straight to the ceiling. I was wearing white basketball shoes, was shaking brutally (!) and it scared the shit out of me. When I realized I was awake, I checked the clock, got up, switched on the light, still fearing I was not all awake and didn't go back to sleep for 3-4 hours. It sucked. After that, I went back to sleep and had the most intense and bizarre dreams ever.

All this occured after not smoking pot for 7 days. I have found pot to be the prefect medication to prevent sleep paralysis. Benzos are known to prevent it as well, but if anyone is thinking about medicating himself in order to get relief, I'd go for pot if I was you. :D

weird-i never experienced it until after i was 21. now i find that when i am using opiates regularly i have a sp episode 1-2 times a month. now i know whats going on, but its still some scary shit. has happened when i wasn't on dope but only 1 or 2 times ever. and yes weed completely prevents it for me. of course it also prevents dreaming altogether which is kinda sad really.

I agree, that is for sure one of the worst aspects of smoking pot. :(
I'll try to find those statistics again which say at what age SP occurs the most etc. Pretty unusual that you have first experienced it with 21...

I don't believe that you have to be on drugs to experience SP. My best friend use to get this when he was a kid, well before our drug days, and for the longest time he believed that his house was haunted.

It happens when you are overly tired, I get them when I'm sober all the time.

Wow negro, you hit the nail on the head there buddy! Great description.... I was just reading that and hanging on your every word, so true!

The part between starting to believe your DREAMS were REALITY and your reality is becoming your dreams.... Ive been there man, it's some messed up shit. You are really confused, and it's very uncertain what IS REAL at that point because your mind is toying with you like a piñata on a meth binge.

Some of these dreams and the sleep paralysis have gotten so real and vivid, that at the peak of my sleep paralysis/vivid dream onset, i was actually not sure what was real or not. When i was awake, everything seem fake and dream like, but when i was asleep, i felt like it was the REAL reality. I even almost started to think that when i was dreaming these SUPER vivid dreams were in fact real, and when i was awake i thought i was actually asleep. The lines between reality and the second life my mind had created in my sleep were getting VERY blurry. This borders on psychosis, which scare the LIVING SHIT out of me, because both my maternal grandmother and uncle are severe paranoid-schizophrenics, and i have ALWAYS had a fear that because of my genes i would myself descend into madness.

Haha... You are mad. Are you a citizen of America or Necronesia, anyway? 8o

Cr00k I don't think pot is the solution , it's what caused my sleep paralysis when I stopped smoking it for a while.

I have a similar thing happen to me on opiates. I always thought of it as some unrouseable nod or lucid dreaming though. I seem to be fully aware of what's going on and it doesn't panic me at all.

Im glad this subject has been brought up as i am a regular sufferer of sleep paralysis. The very first time i had sleep paralysis was after mixing xanax with codeine, and since then ive had it regulary, sometimes i even dream that its happening but im just dreaming it, its very odd, i never see ghosts but i wake up and cant move a limb in my body, sometimes it feels like im choking and it can be very scary!

The thing to do is just let yourslef fall back to sleep, if you just relax you can feel yourself going, just let it happen and youll wake up fine, i however usualy try and move for a few minutes until i eventually do a movement that works. lol.

I know get it usualy upon waking in the morning, i get it after heroin these days as thats pretty much what i always use but it was definately xanax that caused it, and im sure that whenever i use benzos these days with opiates i get sleep paralysis. Many times ive tried to throw water over my face and such to wake me up and one time i actually found out i had, so that time i must have been dreaming and actually been able to do it in my sleep, very odd.

It is fuckin scary.

On a related note is anyone familiar with the concept of astral projection? Sleep paralysis is often a precursor to taking an astral trip but instead of waking up in a paralysis state you actually drift into it before falling asleep. Whoever mentioned seeing beings during sleep paralysis may actually be experiencing astral projection. During an astral trip beings almost always appear as purely black figures, and in my case are generally slender.

The actual scientific basis for astral projection is unknow but I am thoroughly convinced that it is a very real phenomenon that goes beyond the thoughts in our heads. There is some evidence of this, for example studies employing remote viewing techniques during astral trips. More research needs to be done to say the least.

I tend to only experience this when sober, more so after a few days off of the herb. One thing that does seem to intensify to probability of me seeing these beings is blue lotus (believe it or not). I am a big supporter of this substance and can personally vouch for its hypnotic qualities, although its effects are subtle and best used as a potentiator of other substances.

By the way I have experienced these phenomenon before using any drugs whatsoever, actually in a greater frequency before I started using drugs. The first time it happened to me I was very frightened because I thought I was dying. In reality I was just drifting into an astral trip. Now sleep paralysis no longer bothers me but can still be somewhat frightening while it is happening because I do not have the mental faculty to realize it is not real while it is occurring. Either way I more or less enjoy it.

I'm starting to gain a limited amount of control during my sp episodes. My goal is that I will enjoy them sometime. My last one actually had pleasant parts. I just closed my eyes and tried to imagine laying on marshmellows. It didn't work but instead it made me swift around through the room like I experience it while holing off K. It greatly intensified my hallucinations and made me go back into the dream land several times. It was still a very scary experience, but I'm definitely "making progress". :)
Only when I start to mentally fight the sp do I have the chance to return to the waking state. Else I'll just stay half asleep.

yeah i get sleep paralysis, first time i got it i thaught i was about to get abducted by aliens(wich is weird for me because im sceptical as hell) cause i felt myself rising up and i heard thins ringing sound that sounded like a hovering spaceship, it scared the shit out of me.

I find i cant move and im not even sure if im breathing while this happens, i trie to scream but i cant. i can see my room as is but sometimes once ive snapped out of it ill find that im actually in a different position that my eyes would have me believe. Sometimes i hear voices, sometimes i get shakes, some times i percieve a friend as being in the room with me.

Normally i get this floating sensation where i float up to the ceiling then come back down below the bed then it gets really scary then it just stops, its like a short intense drug trip maaann.

One time after lsd i heard these voices that were sort of tapping into my emotions that gave me the sense that my gf was evil and i had to do something, i snapped out of it and my heart was racing and i was drenched in sweat and fear.

To the best of my knowledge withdrawing from drugs usually causes the opposite effect of the drugs because your brain is imbalanced. Therefore if quitting pot can cause SP then smoking pot may very well be a way to prevent it.

Peace

With opiates, generaly couldnt sleep paralysis happen just because of the cns depressive effect? I remember when I had put on a 75 ucg fentenyl patch and was blowing pieces of roxicodone on top of it. I woke up the next morning feeling as if i hadnt moved at all in my sleep and my limbs had little blood flow...think of pins and needles to the extreme. I had to jump in a hot shower to get rid of it.
