I am jus curious. even when i went to the methadone clinic, they asked, did you skin pop or IV no, they actually said "mainline" my bad (lol)

I am just wonderin, does anybody actually fucking do this? i never met a junkie (my age) at least, who IM's their dope. its such a stupid ass waste of dope, it makes ur shit swell up and get red and itch and its uncomfortable as a mutha fucka, as far as i kno the only "skin popping' people do is when they miss a shot. it seems like this is some kind of made up concept by people who aint never used the drug, but I have heard old time junkies talkin about skin poppin tho, and it jus seems so pointless and backwards to me......but i kno it is real since the old heads dont just necessarily make shit up for shits n giggles, and I kno heroin addiction used to have a lot different culture around it, so i can see maybe why they did it, but in these days?

So I am askin the junkie BL community, does anybody here , or anybody u kno, actually do this? Why would you , when you can just IV? Who teaches you to IM a shot of dope? most of us had someone school us on usin the needle a older, more experienced user most likely, so if they are already addicted and experienced wouldnt they kno enough to kno that IV is the best?

I kno there has been stranger things in our crazy world of addiction, but this one always bothers me. it especially seems like someone like a methadone clinic worker would have enough expeience with heroin users to kno that the huge majority of us IV our dope. i laughed when they asked "how did you shoot it, did you pop it or mainline it" like a fuckin DARE commercial.....
 
People who IM their dope do it because their veins arent visable, or damaged; more for the heavy abusier whos "maintaining"
 
I'll skin pop sometimes when I'm sick as fuck and can't find a vein after 15 minutes of painful poking because they're all collapsed, scarred up too bad, buried too deep under swelling, and/or I'm shaking too bad, then do another shot when I can take my time. I suspect later in my life I'll be doing it when I'm completely out of veins, after my jugular and femoral are no longer accessible.
 
I have ZERO experience with IV heroin... but wouldnt the IM route be a hell of a lot safer? There is still the chance of abscesses... but your vascular system wouldnt suffer so much?

Edit - having re-read that i realised that even if it was safer, IV still gives the better hit... so case closed i guess

I've heard of skin popping - it seemed to me it was almost exclusively an American thing coz I never met anyone or heard of anyone doing it. Now I reckon it's exclusively a non event coz no one actually does it, except the inevitable exception that will prove the rule. :\
 
Well IM'ing a shot of dope would seem like a waste to me, you IV for the instant rush of euphoria. If I missed or Im'ed some dope I would consider it a waste,yeah I wouldn't be sick but the instant rush is the whole reason I started shooting up
 
The only people I've ever met who skin-popped were:
*lazy
*ill-informed
*plain ol' stupid
*fat (can't find veins)

or any combination of the above.


edit: I'd like to emphasize that I don't mean offense to anybody who skin pops by saying this.

Skin popping does not mean Intra-Muscular injection, it is SC, SubCutaneous injection. IM is injecting directly into a muscle, SC is injecting under the skin. Big difference.

Depending on where you try to hit a vein, a missed shot can result in a SC injection.

From what I've heard and read, skin popping is similar to snorting in terms of rate of onset, peak, duration, etc

It seems to be more or less a last resort, if you can't find a vein, or if you don't have any veins left to hit (i.e. all veins are collapsed, damaged, scar tissued, etc). SC is preferable to IM with dope, IM injections are said to be much more painful, with an intense burning. Some people say they IM Morphine rather than IV because of pain and discomfort from Morphine shots (especially IM in the legs instead of IV in the arms). This only seems to be a problem with certain people.
 
Skin popping comes on faster than snorting, I know this from when I was learning to shoot and missed a shot or two. It comes in within a few minutes.

And nothing should be taken sub-q/IM unless it came from a sterile vial.
 
Skin-pop? No. Never known anyone to do it - at least not deliberately.

IM? Yes. But only if they were struggling to get the shot and it was starting to coagulate - needs must and all that :\.

Never done either myself - IV all the way... but am looking into IM for "other" things :).
 
Exactly guys I've never skin-popped unless I missed. IM is when you inject deeply into a muscle in your upper arm or your calf. So missing a shot in your forearm is prolly not IM'ing, unless your in your outter forearm deep in it. And really I've never felt shit from missing unless I was very very sick, or it was excelent dope, like top notch shit. It does seem like a slow-release patch or some shit if I half miss a big shot, seems to take longer to get sick..

Also if your not able to get a hit, it *may* be a viable option to tear the needle tip off and stick the plastic tip up your butt 2-3 in and plug it. I read in an article on how to shoot into the femeral vein that people should consider that before going to the femeoral vein, I guess theres a lot of veins in the anus and its fairly fast obsorbed, I've never done it but I think it'd be better than missing.

Also the article on femeral vein injecting said you need a rig with a 1 1/2 in tip, is that true or would a 1/2 in tip rig work?
 
There was a 22 year old kid on the show Intervention addicted to heroin, and he skin-popped throughout the whole show. Said he had no veins left, and was even running out of areas to skin pop on because the tissue was getting rock hard all over. Had a few untreated abscesses too, fucking sick.
 
^ I don't know how recent that episode was, but you can bet he'll be in some medically fucked soon enough (if not already), or at the very least be left with NASTY scars for the rest of his life.
 
I've heard of people skin popping, but not very often. I havent known too many people that shot heroin though. The few that i did would skin pop when they couldnt find a vein, as others have said. I never heard of them IMing it. The only thing i've heard of being IMed was K, but that was a long time ago.

I saw that episode also, and the user was a hardcore hern addict. He had to SC about 10 hits a day to maintain. He actually is doing good now!

I have to SC my multiple sclrosis medications starting on the 20th. I heard its painful :(

i diss people when they do that shit i can't stand to see people waste dope as well as the sight is disgusting because it's usually the gross-looking dope fiends that have to do it. i remember smacking myself in the face hard because i newbishly SC'ed a 2mg dilaudid.
 
a chick i use to shoot up with would skin pop basicly if she couldnt hit... alot of her vains where jacked up and she would spend alot of time trying to register... i was with her a couple times when she just said fuck it...

id never skin pop... but ive still got vains i can abuse
 
Skin popping is a bad idea!! My veins are very small, collapsed, and hidden; so a few times I've had to skin pop it to stop the sickness to make time to actually find a vein. But i ended up with two huge abcesses! One was the size of a tennis ball, LITERALLY, and the other was the size of half a golf ball. The both got infected after I tried to drain them by sticking a syringe in them to extract some of the infected goop. When I walked I could feel them shaking. It was so painful... also painful was when I went to the ER to get the cut open and drained. Then the doc didnt want to give me pain meds cuz he knew they were abcesses(even though i told him they were infected bee stings LOL) so I was sore and uncomfortable for over a week!!!
 
my girl told a doctor it was a brown recluse bite once and he bought it... atleast he gave her pain killers... so i assume he bought it... maybe try that excuse next time?
