So, I just remembered a little while ago when I took heroin for the first time I kept note of how I was feeling during the whole time (partly because one of the reasons I took it was for research purposes for my novel...well, okay no, but it was useful!).
I was in no way opiate-naive as I'd done codeine, dihydrocodeine, hydrocodone and oxycodone many times and had been addicted to oxycodone just shortly before so I had a pretty high tolerance to that.
I should probably add I was a little drunk (I'd had a beer and whiskey an hour before if I recall correctly) when I took the heroin, which btw was not very smart when it comes to harm reduction so I'm in no way whatsoever recommending that.
Anyway, I snorted about 50mg of 35/40% pure heroin. Here's how it went:
11:55 pm: snorted a line
12:05 am: lying in bed, intense rush. Huge wave of euphoria sweeps through me and I feel this weird numbness taking over. This lasts maybe ten, twenty seconds.
12:30 am: still feeling quite intense. Familiar warm, fuzzy opiate feeling has taken over and I feel like I don't have a single care in the world, the euphoria is much, MUCH stronger than with all the other opiates I'd tried. Also, I walked around a bit and I think for some reason it was much less noticeable I was high than when I took oxys. On oxys I'd have trouble walking straight and stuff but here it was okay, I was just a little dizzy.
12:35 am: not feeling as high as I wanted (didn't feel like I'd be able to nod yet), snorted another line about the same size as the first.
12:45 am: MUCH stronger rush than the first time for some reason.Powerful feeling of warmth and euphoria goes up and down my body.
12:50 am: in bed listening to music, I start to nod and this continues until about 3 am when I can't nod anymore.
3 am: effects are starting to wear off. No more euphoria although I feel quite content/satisfied (I'm usually massively depressed so this is still a huge improvement). Feeling a little dizzy. No nausea whatsoever though which is great.
~5 am: completely back to normal.
Next morning, after a few hours of sleep: I do have a noticeable opiate hangover but it's all right. I just feel sort of out of it and weak but nothing too bad.
Anyway, I've done it a couple times since and I can say I do get why people have so much respect and fear for this drug. I've never had any problems with other hard drugs like cocaine (never really got why it was such a big deal, but then again it depends on the person) but with heroin I get it. While I was still high I was already thinking of the next time I'd be able to take it...it's intense.
