Is there no needle exchange or other drug outreach program in your area where you can get free needles?

If you have to get them from a pharmacy, what you should ask for depends on where you live. I always found it best to ask for the syringes by name. Like, "Can I please have a package of BD 1CC insulin syringes in regular?" (that is the brand and type available where I live). No need to go on pretending you are a diabetic, it's easy to get caught out that way and many pharmacies will ask to see your prescription. Best to just sound like you're very familiar with the syringes and be matter-of-fact and business-like, as though you buy syringes all the time and it's no big deal. It's also important not to look like a junkie. Dress/look nice, don't wear a hoodie or sunglasses, and act normal. If they ask you why you are buying them it's best to say for your parent or uncle etc. That way they won't expect you to answer a million questions about your diabetes. If they say they only sell syringes to people with a prescription you can say we are from out of town and didn't bring a copy of the prescription with us. If they refuse to sell them to you, no biggie, just go to a different pharmacy. Some pharmacies are extremely strict and others really don't care and will sell them to anyone.

I would NOT use a random needle that someone gave you that isn't in a sealed package. Also, if you are planning on using more than once you will need more than one syringe.

EDIT: I just realized you were in Texas, which to my knowledge does not have needle exchanges, and possessing or distributing syringes for non-medical purposes in Texas is actually illegal! That's terrible. If you plan on using IV on a regular basis then you really want to find a pharmacy that will sell them to you or order a bunch of them online.

Ok well fuck all that jazz, my friend gave me a needle.he said hasnt been used but just to be safe how can I sterilize it?

As I said, I would really NOT recommend doing this if you have no way to know for sure whether or not it has been used. Is there a little cap over the needle and one over the plunger? If not, I wouldn't proceed. The one over the plunger should be a little hard to get off, like you need to twist it a little. The one over the needle doesn't prove it hasn't been used. If you insist on doing this anyway, you can partly sterilize it with bleach. Draw the bleach up into the syringe (through the needle), fill the syringe barrel, then squirt it out. Do this about 3 times. Then do the same thing with sterile water, at least 10 times. It is very important to get every last bit of the bleach out.

You do not want to be using a used syringe, even if you yourself have used it, because the needle gets dulled very quickly. So if you are planning on doing more than one hit then you really need to get your own syringes.

Not sure what the laws are in Texas about needle exchanges and allowing pharmacies to sell syringes over the counter... you need to look into that. But I'm pretty sure Texas is a state that lets you buy them at a pharmacy. If that's the case and it's like NY, where pharmacies are allowed to sell up to 10 needles without a script, just say. "Can I have a 10 pack of 1cc 30 gauge syringes?" Simple as that.

Do not use a needle someone just gave to you... it's a horrible idea.

Well I did the advice given even though it did have both caps on it, but me never doing it myself went terribly wrong I could of swore I hit my big ass vein but I didnt and jesus did it hurt, now its swollen and very noticable besides that I just want to know if im ok, what should I expect to happen?

Did it hurt when you injected it or only afterwards? Any other details you could provide? Did it register blood when you pulled up on the plunger before injecting? Any one of a number of things could have happened, you may have missed the vein and injected it into the flesh or under the skin, you could have hit a nerve, you could have hit an artery. You will need to watch it closely and make sure it is not getting worse or getting infected. You should do some research on proper injection technique.

It burned like hell and I didnt see any blood cuz I couldnt pull the plunger due to only having 1 hand to use, then I tried my foot and 3 seperate times I never registered..

Don't even imply that shooting into that vein is acceptable, as it is not. The risks outweigh the positives by far.

Please dont inject if you can't manage to register and shoot with one hand.

You should not be IV'ing without registering as no matter how much it looks like you are in the vein you want to be 100% sure.

Learn how to use one hand or get someone else to fix you up - better yet dont IV at all.

Yikes! There is your problem right there. Never inject without registering first. And don't inject if it burns or hurts! That means something is wrong. You most certainly can pull back the plunger while only using one hand, you just have to learn how. Practice to find what works for you. The photo that i against i posted shows a good way, and there are other ways as well, just play around with it, like practice using a capped syringe (that isn't actually stuck in your arm) and just go through the motions. It's weird, I never even realized before that some people would find it difficult to register with one hand, I guess because when I first started using I had never even seen someone else do it before and I figured it out right away.

You probably missed, is the area looking and feeling better now?

Honestly, I would consider maybe a 28g...tar gets really thick sometimes. When I had a 30g needle it would clog 12 times before i got that bitch in!
