would valerian, passionflower, or any other common herbal sedative help after amphetamine, coke, or mdma use?

what are some good herbal sedatives? i hear valerian has benzo-like effects, and i've tried kava with no luck:(

they are worth trying;
I have used: Valerian, Kava, Passion Flower, Chamomile, Lemon Balm, Orange Blossom, for sedation/relaxation to treat insomnia.
I fond them all pretty mediocre but they are also pretty cheap (you can buy them bulk and have tons forever, or just buy capsules at most pharmacies)

never used it for a stimulant comedown but I would say its totally worth giving it a shot.
For Valerian try something over 1000mg, I've never had much luck with smaller doses. Mine currently are 450 mg capsules, so at bare minimum I take two but usually 3-6

I am not familiar with the MAOI effects of Passionflower, will the MAOI effects still be potent from doses used in sleeping formulas?
For example, the valerian caps I take have passion flower in them:
450mg Valerian + 100mg total of this blend [Hops, Passion Flower, Lemon Balm]

assuming taking 3 caps, thats only 300mg of the blend, is that enough to have serious MAOI effects from the passionflower?

passionflower supplements use the flower, the maoi's from the plant come from the leaves, and the maoi content in the leaves are not even that high compared to other maoi plants.

You would have to take a mega dose(3 or 4 grams) of velarian root with passion flower to get a good level of sedation. That's alot of passion flower. I'm sure something bad would/should happen.

Yeah, that's why I take mega doses... They just don't cut it...

Really fresh high dose Kava though, OMG, will be amazing..... It does inhibit dopamine breakdown though...

I would suggest smoking White / Blue / Pink Lotus or Wild Dagga, look them up on Erowid.org and if you need more info about (legal) herbal blends just send me a PM. :)

I have never tried this but I read a lot about kratom... Mild doses can be stimulating but heavier doses is sedating. Both can give euphoria. I was thinking of trying this for opiate wd's... Maybe worth looking into?

Mulungu root is as close to an herbal benzo type plant as you will get atm. Works quite well,though it will not entirely kill whatever else you are on, but is nicely sedating.

i've given up on kava, lotus never did anything, never tried dagga(don't feel like ordering it), i've found a mix of valerian, skullcap, passionflower, hops, and catnip to be the best. still kinda weak though.

Anyone looking to these herbs to replace a benzo is going to be sadly mistaken. The herbs all help in mild ways with sedation. None of them are going to have a strong effect like taking a xanax unless perhaps taken in very high dosages. However having to take a massive dose of an herbal substance sort of kills some of the purpose. Sure its legal, but If I have to take 15-25 capsules of valerian to feel like I have taken a benzo then my wallet is going to be slim.

That being said, I still use them. I use valerian (mixed w/ small amount of passion flower, hops, and lemon balm) as well as chamomile tea and kava tea. They help me relax at night but they are not the same effect as taking a xanax

I will definitely have to check out Mulungu;
If its really on par with Klonopin then I'll give it a try. (in between benzo rx's right now)

What would you say is the best method for ingestion?

I love Valerian root but I agree you need to take a lot, ST Johns Wort is suppose to be good for evening out the nerves but I've never really done much with it. Chamomile smells really great but I don't know about it's effectiveness. You can use scull cap sparingly but it can be toxic in larger doses, I've never had a problem with it but if you use too much it can put you asleep...permanently. Why no weed? Have you tried a jwh blend like k2 or Siberian Sneak or something that may hit you differently if weed doesn't. Although SS always makes me a little horny so that may not be the best when you are trying to come down. lol

for me weed intensifies any emotions/feelings i am feeling, and on a comedown they aren't good feelings. also, st. john's wort interacts with a lot drugs in a lot of different ways, i always stay away from it.

One brand name Herbal sleep-aid lists in the contraindications:

Do not use if you are depressed

valarian root has been found to contain constituents with similar GABA activity as benzo's (off wikipedia sorry)

a good extract of kratom probably be your best bet..

Plus personally not all strains of weed are sedating, I've had a blueberry strain that would not let me sleep (whilst being powerfully stoning)

I agree completely about the problem with weed. Sometimes I do not have access to different strains; while some strains are perfect for anti-anxiety and insomnia, others can be more of a hindrance
