hep c possitive could use some advice

Thank you for the kind words, honey! Well you're lucky you have type 2, because I have type 1 and its the hardest to get rid of. I think I'm just going to wait for more advanced treatment comes out. I've just come to terms with accepting my hand i've been dealt I suppose. People live a long time with this disease, and yeah it sucks but I try to tell myself it could be worse. My best friend got HIV from sharing needles and I tested negative for that so I consider myself lucky that all I got was Hep C. I definately want treatment, just not with interferon. I want something that is gonna give me higher than a 50/50 chance of beating it.

I also have bi-polar disorder and from what I hear, the interferon treatments trigger major depression in a lot of people and I don't need anymore of that. I'm already on a cocktail of meds for being bi polar and the last thing i need is to lose my mind due to the interferon treatments. Even my doctors think I should wait for something better to come out. I'm just too scared to do the interferon. I'm barely able to function cuz of the side effects of the medications i'm on now, I would be a hot mess doing interferon!8o

So, I'll wait awhile. I'm young...only 26. I got plenty of time to decide about treatment. If I do decide to do it, it will definately be before I'm 30! I guess the younger you are, the more of a chance you have of beating it.

I hope your doing well sweetie! You hang in there too!:)

hiya honey! whatever you choose to do try to take care of yourself in the meantime. do you take milk thistle? i know it helped a lot with the fatigue etc. my doc told me as well they are working on new things so you might be right waiting, anyway hugs from scotland! take care!................love.................e.

The friend I mentioned in a post below had type 1 (the "bad" one) but she got rid of it all the same. And she wasn't sick that much. In fact the Ribavirin or the Interferon (you have to do both!) even rid her of her hay fever from which she suffered a lot each spring.

There's an interferon (Peg-interferon I think) that you only inject once a week.

I'll have to try the milk thistle! Where do you get it? just at the grocery store?

Thanks for the kind words, love! :) This gives me hope that maybe I really can beat this thing! I really hope so....cuz it really has effected my ability to function normally. The fatigue is just soooo bad. Even if I get a full nights rest, I wake up still feeling exhausted and achey all over. Maybe I'll give it a shot in the fall time. I'm gonna have to think about it for awhile. It's a big decision, but I'm still considering treatment. I'm just really scared:( I dont want to throw up all day long and lose my hair....or worse, my mind(i read that the treatments can be pretty emotionally gruelling).:|

My father in law has it. He has lived with it for a long time. He underwent some serious treatment almost like chemo I am not sure what it was called. The treatment was rough, it was a year long and pretty hellish but it worked really well and he is doing great. He did the treatment YEARS ago. I would talk to your dr. His wife does not have it. He contracted it from sharing needles back in the day. He is very healthy now. You can live a long a happy live with Hep C and it is very hard to pass on to a sexual partner so you will be fine in that dept. Research foods that are good for the liver. I have a benign tumor in the liver.. Broccoli is a power food for the liver, and milk thistle is good for the liver as well. I wish you the best of luck but remember it is not the end of the world you will be okay. This is livable! Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it!

im on some meds but cant get another script cant affored to go to a dr.

Sure you can. There are programs and associations out there that allow people to see doctors for free, especially concerning this kind of thing. Do some research about clinics near you that offer any help for this kind of thing. If you live in a small town you might have to visit a larger city but I can almost guarantee that you will be able to find something out there. Plus if you do your research properly, you can acquire help from the government even via certain programs set up to help folks who cannot afford health care. They might not be top notch but they're something.

Also, TONS of pharmacies offer hundreds of generic prescriptions for only $4 now, even if you do not have insurance (Wal-mart being included, and Wal-marts are freaking everywhere).

The most important thing is that you get yourself to a doctor.
