Hey BL,
I'm living on the west coast, but I have two friends on the east coast. They haven't ever met.
Charlie is very communicative, does a lot of psychs and e and alcohol, and is addicted to oxy. He's tried to quite 5 times, and he's currently on a regiment to get clean by may 10th (he hopes). Tomorrow he is going into work without a perc. I'm not worried too much about Charlie, he has self-control, he really WANTS to quit this time around.
I'm worried about Jim. I went to college with Jim, he was one of my best friends, but since I went to the west coast we've lost some contact. We mostly talk on IM or facebook, and we rarely if ever talk on the phone. Jim has been kinda a dick to our mutual friends. After he learned that I snorted a drug, he said:
me: so we snorted some ketamine and then played Go
Jim: whaat
Jim: yoou! snorted something?
Jim: hahaha
Jim: you'll have to do a percocet with me some time
-_- I am not happy about this. I haven't said anything to him about it yet, because he's the kind of guy who withdraws from people. Me and two other college friends would bother him about his job hunt, ask him how it was going, and he was really annoyed at us for doing that. He withdrew and didn't talk to us much.
I don't know how much Jim is doing, how often, how long, or anything. Charlie thinks that if Jim would say "you'll have to do a percocet with me some time" then he's an addict.
So, I'm going to orchestrate a meeting between Charlie and Jim. Charlie works 20 minutes away from where Jim lives, at a pretty public place, and he would really like someone else to kick oxy at the same time he does, and he's also happy to give Jim a talking to as a favor to me. It'd also probably be cathartic to him to give Jim a talking to about how bad oxy is.
Jim is the trickier part of this equation. I called him tonight (he was drunk at a party with his girl) and I just told him that I have a friend in Massachusetts that he should meet, he'd be a good connection. Jim probably thinks that Charlie wants to buy some weed.
Tomorrow I'm going to call Jim and talk to him about how much oxy he does, tell him about Charlie, and encourage him to just go talk to Charlie about it.
Any recommendations? I've never done something like this before. How do you bring up the topic? Should I ask him how much he's doing before I tell him that I think it's a bad thing? Do I have to worry about trusting him?
(And before anyone says "let Jim live his own life", shut it, that's not what friends are for.)
