So I have been on 12 10/325 percocets a day for over a yrs now! I take them 3 every 4-6 hrs! Then @ bed they had me one 4 5 mgs oxycodone ontop of my 3 to try getting me thru the night! Well recently my knee and hip have gotten really bad and sometimes percs dont hold me over to next dose! So they added in a additional 6 oxycodone 10 mgs to use for break thru pain! This seems extreme to me! that a total of 200 miligram of oxycodone a day! I have tried to google safe or normal doses of oxy in 24 hrs and can not find it! I went to er last night cuz i feel like heart is racing just dont feel right..they did ekg said it was fine go home! any help i would love to know! also thursday they put me on steriods for bronchitis!

Feel lucky, thats a prescription most of us envy.

Anyhoo, just because you're prescribed 22 pain pills a day, doesn't mean you have to take all of them, especially if you don't feel right.

But in general, opioids are the safest, least neurotoxic drug around, so you're safe as long as you have the tolerance to handle it. But you will still get side effects, likely dimished or complete loss in sex drive as well as emotional detachment from everything that isn't oxycodone.

But all the tylenol you're taking each day may be harmful. Why not ask to be switched over to One 80mg and one 40mg oxycontin each day, along with the doses for sleep and breakthrough "pain" which I'm guessing contain only oxy.

I'm not sure about the steroids though. WebMD is an addicts friend.

I'm from Australia, but I'm guessing the 350 part is amacetaminophen? Or what we call paracetamol? If so.. the max recommended dose is 4 grams per day for no more than a few days straight. You're on more than that, permanently! Not good. Your liver WILL cave, you'll have kidney problems. This stuff is toxic. CitoKid is right.. try to stick with oxycontin taken correctly (not chewed, snorted, or injected). Since you're on this site I'm wondering if you're more psycologically dependent at this point than physically. You might need to look at getting off this medication all together and trying a long acting opioid like methadone, a once daily dose taken four hours before bed so that it will help you sleep. Do this SOONER rather than later, because tolerance to methadone is much, much slower to build, but you'll be on twice your oxycodone dose before you know it, and three times that before the years out. It only goes up and up and up, especially when you aren't using it by the book. (I'm not saying you aren't.. it's just that I'm talking from my own experience as a pain patient on oxycontin and now on methadone!) PM me if you like. Good luck.

OP, seems very odd that you would be prescribed huge quantities of 10mg oxycodone when they come in 15 and 30mg doses as well. If I were you, I would look into reducing the number of pills you are taking.

The total MG dose you are taking isn't absurd, but considering the AMOUNT of small-ish dose pills, it seems quite odd. Def worth asking your MD about.

Homeless --> other drugs.

Hey man, are they prescribing you percocet? If so, that is way too much tylenol to be taking.
This is imminently dangerous, the second number is the amount of apap or tylenol in the pill. Ie 10/325 means 10mg oxycodone and 325 of tylenol. You shouldn't ever take more than 4g of APAP in one day, so even 10 or 12 of these percocet is putting you very close to that.

Less pressing is the amount of oxy you are taking. It sounds like a very high dose, and you should really consider other options for pain relief. Diet, exercise, acupuncture, physical therapy... they can all help immensely. If I were you, I would talk to my doctor about ways to reduce your medication while also reducing your pain.

Also, if your dose just increased, you could have been having a mild od, as racing heart can be one symptom of an od.

Raise this issue with your doctor, that is a severe amount of tylenol, terrible for you. It will kill you.

Why the hell aren't you switched onto Oxycontin or something time released?
I don't know how bad your pain is but 200mg does seem a little extreme, at least the way you're prescribed it.
