i have been clean for 3 months and i was looking for some non bias insight by any users/ past users. I have been using since november 2009, starting with hydro and oxy. the base dose was 15-20mg, but of course my tolerance grew and fast. by last summer i was physically hooked and taking about 50MG, then went to H in august, and stopped in september. i took a week off in september and my tolerance cut in half! but it quickly went up again and by last fall was going up to about 80 MG each time. i used about 4-5 times a week and spent most of my time dopesick as i could not afford this expensive habit. i got bad into heroin and my tolerance went up from 3 bags sniffed to 7, so i started using needles and using 2 or 3 at a time that way. i quit in the middle of april.
I was wondering, after 3 months off, how low you think my tolerance would be. i often think about that base dose of 20Mg of oxy. i have heard many myths about opiate tolerance, some say it never goes down, some it takes years, and some say after a month or 2 it would be down at base. i know it varies somewhat on a case to case basis, and how long and how much you have been using. does anyone have an experience they can share about taking a long drug holiday to lower tolerance, and based on my history, how low would you think my tolerance is now, or if it will ever go back to base?

I have been an opiate user for about 11 years...

I do not think that your tolerance will ever go back to "base". I also think that your tolerance will be much lower for a week or two, then it will start going up very quickly again.

I agree. I do not believe your tolerance will ever go back to the point it would have been if you had never taken any opiates. Psychopath is also right in saying that each time you reduce your tolerance through a break and begin using again, that it goes up faster than the last time.

I would say, with a 7 bag/day heroin habit (purity dependent, somewhat), that it would take AT LEAST three months for your tolerance to noticeably reduce, more like a half a year for it to go to say half of what it was.

EDIT: and also for your tolerance to reduce by a noticeable amount you'd need to not use AT ALL, preferrably not even once, during the time period you are attempting to reduce it. Im not basing anything Ive said on medical facts, just my own experience over the last three years
