HELP! When can I take my suboxone again?

Hi there,
I am posting this as homeless, because my laptop is confused and doesn't want to take me to the suboxone thread. So, I am hoping some kind soul in bluelight cyberspace will help direct it where it needs to go.
Well, any help at all will be appreciated on this matter. Since September, I have been taking 16mg suboxone, but this past Monday, I was admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery, and was given morphine the entire time I was there (through yesterday afternoon, which was a total of 3 days). Now, I was a good girl; before they gave me the morphine, I was honest with them about my situation and told them they needed to contact my Sub doc first, which they did. My sub doc told them the morphine would be fine, it just wouldn't be as effective. But damn, just 2-4mg of morphine made me feel so damn good! Anyway, the sub doc also told ME to obviously not take suboxone while being given morphine, and to wait 12 hours after my last dose of anything opiate to take suboxone. Well, the hospital gives me 5/325mg Percocets (30 of them) to take home, so what do you think I'm gonna take? The percs of course. So, of course the percs really have no effect, though, I found out, after all the suboxone and morphine. My last morphine dose was at 10am yesterday (Thursday) morning. I took 3 percocets at around 8pm last night, which did literally nothing. I went to bed around 10pm, and have been up since about 1am sweating, chest pounding, tossing and turning, and having the most uncomfortable withdrawal-type feelings. A part of me wants to wait til 8 am to take my suboxone, and another part of me doesn't know if there will be enough shit outta my system to take it without going into the precipitated withdrawal shit. It is now 5am and I am hurting.
So, my question: Has anyone here had any experience with this? Have you been on subs for a while and then taken an opiate like that? How long should you wait before taking suboxone again? I don't feel like I can wait much longer. Any advice? Thanks so much!

well oxy has a relatively short half-life (4.5hours) so if you wait 10-12 hours after your last oxy dose, you will be able to take your sub without the problem of precipitated withdrawl....

i'm not 100% sure about this though so wait for more answers, OR you could just phone your doctor, explain the situation, and ask his advice

That's not very long to wait, but it sounds like you are in some WD's alright...I dunno. I think since the percs are so weak, you would have been good to take the subs sooner. They probably didn't have much effect on your opy receptors, since it sounds like you're used to taking stronger stuff. Since you made this post this morning, I assume you've probably already worked it out, but...

If so how'd it go? If not, I'd say you'd be WAY ok to take subs by now...

On a side note, subs are such a weird little beast. They do a lot of good, but man do I hate playing the waiting game, trying to figure out if you feel shitty enough to take them. Last time I switched to subs, it was a really hard transition, and I ended up going back to my DOC. I think the key is starting with smaller amounts (2 mg or so), and also making sure you don't have to work the day you start.

Those are checkpoints on my list anyways...

If you asked a professional in the medical field they will tell you to wait 24 hours after your last dose. It is possible depending on weight, tolerance, and metabolism to take it sooner but, if you want to for sure avoid negative effects, I would get as close to 24 hours as possible my friend. Remember you're in much better shape than you would be from being pushed into withdrawals by taking the sub too soon.

Thanks for all the help, everyone! I really appreciate all your responses! My laptop has been a wee bit retarded lately, so I apologize for not responding sooner. Anyways, I could not reach my doctor (he was out of town) and none of his nurses were returning my calls. So, around 7:00am that morning, I took the subs anyway, with very positive results. I am glad I held out those extra couple hours, and I felt great after taking it. I had all these percs I was tempted to take, but I truthfully like being on suboxone, and did not want to screw my regimen up any more than it already had been from being in the hospital. I have been in severe pain from my surgery, but I am happy to be back on the suboxone, and not feeling like I want to claw my eyes out, begging for more morphine. So, since being back on the suboxone Friday morning, I feel grounded once again, and have a different perspective on subs. I was taking the meds since September without a relapse, but still got the urge to shoot up from time to time. But now, I am just glad to be back on my subs, even though I have a safe in my bedroom with percs locked up inside it. 6 months ago, I would have chewed my way through that safe to get to the percs inside it, but I am glad I do not want to go down that road today. I am not trying to sound high and mighty (I can't promise I wouldn't pick up the 'ol spoon and rig if I had dope before me), but I hope maybe this helps someone, anyone. It was phatass that said oxys (percs) have a relatively short half-life (and IV morphine is short-acting), so it does leave your system pretty quickly. That was good advice. And ya know what? My doc said the same thing when he FINALLY called me back! Good call! And I didn't mean to write a book. I know it's all different with everyone, depending on all sorts of factors, like TMoney said.

Again, thank you for all your responses. It's always good to know there's someone out there to help (or to tell you you're being a dumbass when you need to hear it most)!

Keep passing it on!

i have been on subs and was clean from opiates and subs for like 5 months before i went chasing MR DRAGON again... anyway it differs from person to person. As soon as i felt any WD's like RLS or dope sickness i would take it and it would work. it doesnt have to be 24 hours... just as soon as you feel any type of moderate WD's.

GL

please be careful with suboxone they are worse to get off of then any opiate you used to be addicted to... funny huh? it is a goood drug to stop the urges and WD's but you can still become dependent on them. The WD's are much worse and it takes longer to leave ur system. If your working with a doc they will prob give you like requip and other shit to get off the subs when you do.... i suggest you get off of them ASAP.... honestly your better off tapering now then 3 years from now..... when it will be impossible....

just advice from a previous sub user. was on it for 2 months to stop opiates obviously and when i stopped the suboxone i needed so many benzos for like 2 weeks plus high grade sleeping pills, etc. Im not trying to scare you just saying its not the miracle drug people speak of. I would rather stop OXY cold turkey then subs cold turkey.....

Oxy at low doses especially snorted you're good with taking your subs 8-12 hours after dosing. I usually just boot up a sub and put myself into the withdrawals wait 15 mins then eat 4 mg, then another 8mg if I'm desperate, but IN NO WAY would i recommend that to you DONT DO that. Its just a mental thing with me.

I have taken subs 4-5 hours after snorting an 80oc and was fine. Take a very small piece at first like 2mg if your good your good if not you can override a small dose of with another 4 I would recommend 8mg dose 30mins after u went into wd's which you won't. Basically I'm telling you your fine I gurrantee it.

if you are experiencing really bad w/d atleast for me its time to take subs even if it was only 8 hours later n i am a heroin addict

Thanks everyone! Kunmo--(still new at this site, so please bear with me)--thanks for the insight! I'm really interested to know about your withdrawal experience from subs. Would you mind telling me? You can PM me if you want, but I can't PM back just yet due to my status.

It's going to be hard wanting to taper down, because I was just now put on the patience assistance program, and I get all my pills FREE from the manufacturer. Yes, FREE. Before, I was tapering down on my own and it wasn't so bad. But now that I was just handed my next 30 days (60 pills) dosage, I kind of feel like "Oh, what the heck? Why stop now?". When you're paying so much money a month for your prescription, which we all know can be nearly $400 (or $6.50 a pill) if you're prescribed 2x8mg a day like me (and that's just Walgreens price). I'm not trying to solicit any illegal info, FYI; these prices are stated by the pharmacies and sub sites all over the web. They are perfectly legal and informational only, for patients with legitimate prescriptions. I only say this because for every 100 intelligent beings on here, there is at LEAST one dumbass who will report this for no good reason).

Anyway, didn't mean to write a book (again) but I guess I'm a lonely gal and appreciate talking to you guys. Is there anyone out there who has kept maybe a log or journal of their w/d's?

oops----it's late and i realized I didn't even end up finishing my sentence in the middle of the "paragraph" I started. Must be the Mucinex D! ha ha

Anyways, what I was TRYING to say is, when you're paying nearly $400 a month for your prescription, you tend to not abuse it, and you definitely are motivated to quit as soon as you can. I have a loving boyfriend who has paid for every RX for me, without hesitation, and only gets love in return! So when Reckitt Beckinser pays for your scrip, it's easy to want to just take full advantage and say Why Stop Now? It's FREE!

So, I may need a kick in the pants.
