Hi i am currently down in Tasmania Australia and i went mushroom hunting and found various types (Alot of some and a few of others) and i am just wondering if maybe you guys could give me some help in identifying if they are any good or dangerous? I am also curious if the wrong mushrooms can be fatal or if they will just give you a stomach ache or something. I have always been the type to be safe then sorry thats why i am posting up the pics so any help would be appreciated.

I'm not if I remember this right but if you take the cap put it under a lid and let it sit for 42 hours cap side down if it turns some color it's good or something sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

sporeprinting..

purple-brown i believe it is your looking for..

cut off a stem, put the cap with the spores side down on a white peice of paper, you need to do it fairly soon after you pick em tho from what I heard..

if the spore print is rusty-brown chances are you have a galarina and you should stay away from that..

white sporeprints are amanitas and thats a big nono but they don't look like amanitas anyway :P

to be totally honest, those don't look like psilocybes to me but you can sporeprint and check em out... most species im familiar with that look like those will bruise blue readily, liberty caps are potent and don't bruise blue, but none of those look like them..

good luck in your search.

Hi i did what you said to each of the types and they didnt seem to leak any substance on the paper besides a small wet mark with no colour they all seemed pretty dry besides one that was slimey but they were all picked very recently.

No i did not but i don't think it will make much of a difference they all seem really dry? is there any place i should put them while i wait the 42 hours? like in the fridge or something

^Why 42 hours? Sporulating mushrooms should leave a perceptible darkish blue stain after about 1-2 hours. The stem needs to be removed. Also, the mushroom itself will start bluing.

But none of those mushrooms are psilocybe's. Bad luck, just throw these ones out.

Ok mate thanks for info! are you 100% sure none of them are worth it? will be such a shame to throw them out lol. Also could you suggest some places to look? we were in damp grasslands near the creek and some areas were almost swamp like. I hear up on the mountains is not 2 bad but i dunno were to start.

None of them are worth it, unless a stomach ache is what you are after ;) Its not really a waste when 70 billion more will have grown in the meantime....

I don't know Tassie very well, but in Melbourne, we look for woodchips. But- its getting close to the end of mushroom season- you'll be lucky to find anything.

There is a thread in the Australian Drug Discussion all about mushrooms...
