Opioids Help/Questions with Methadone Detox:

Every 5 days sounds about fine.

And hearty congrats for getting off methadone. I was being prescribed 75mg daily for pain purposes and my new GP decided to wean me down and introduced fentanyl 75ucg/hr patches once I'd got down to 20mg of methadone and took me off the last 20mg over a 4 week period.

Even WITH the fentanyl I remember how fucking horrible it was coming off that last 20mg.

Honestly, don't sweat it too much about the tramadol...... you've achieved a HUGE AMOUNT by coming off the methadone.

I just wanted to second dhcdavid in saying awesome job, and congratulations.. Methadone is the hardest thing I have ever detoxed from, and I have detoxed my fair share.. I was on MMT for about 15 months, at 75mg daily. I was tired of the clinic and wanted to be free of the shackles the methadone clinic puts on instead of staying for about 1-2 years to taper slowly.

Stupid decision, without a doubt.

Detoxing cold turkey from 75mg daily was beyond HELL. I was very physically sick for about 3 weeks before it started getting noticeably better. Even though I am prescribed benzos, soma, seroquel, remeron.. And had a handful of suboxone, nothing.. NOTHING would make me feel good.

Without a doubt I would rather detox from heroin five times again than go thru that shit.

you seem to have a pretty good grasp on your taper and whatnot; I have nothing to add really, other than good luck.

Also, once you get off the pills totally, make sure you take the proper measure to deal with the Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS). Such as therapy, meetings, etc. Also seeing a psychiatrist is not a bad idea either, so if you have other anxiety/depression/mental issues, you can get medicated properly as to hopefully fix the issues that cause you to want to use in the first place.

Good luck ! If you want to talk or anything about methadone detox and tapering and stuff, feel free to shoot me a private message.

Just passed day 30 and going strong. Thanks for the support everyone, it is VERY much appreciated. Starting to feel better, although still not well enough to get back to the gym. It's driving me crazy.........

Well, in case anyone is interested, it has now been well over 30 days. I'm not keeping track anymore, LoL. I'm down to 1.5 Tramadol 3 times daily and cutting my dose each week. I'm also starting to feel pretty good and almost back to normal. Sleeping better, feeling more upbeat, going out and such. Going to get back into the gym next week Monday I think. Anyhow, thank you very much for all your assistance - it is VERY much appreciated!

That is great to hear, OP! Stay strong, and don't give up now since you made it this far. Try not to rush the tramadol taper, there is no rush and the slower you go the more comfortable you will be during the whole process.

Good luck !

Methadone detox

Thanks so much for the info here. I tried to kick Methadone cold turkey off of 20mg last year. I went to a detox and all they gave me was muscle relaxers. No help at all. The 5th day I left and went running back, with my tail between my legs, to the clinic. I was devastated. I thought I could do it. It was 10 times worse than kicking Heroin to me. Usually once I make up my mind to kick, I follow through. Not this time. I had never tried to kick Methadone before. I have never been hooked on it before. It was always Heroin from Southern Cali. The withdrawals were so different. I couldn't focus like I could when withdrawing from H. So, bottom line is, I am here, on this site, trying to figure out a way to get this gorilla off my back. Any advice, answers, methods, etc. would be sooooo appreciated.

OK Munkie4sale, firstly, welcome to Bluelight!

Secondly, I recommend you start a new thread completely as normal Bluelight practice is NOT to hijack a thread someone else began (i.e. like here).

But I'll try to answer your queries regardless because some of us at Bluelight are just straight up wonderful human beings.

Trying to quit methadone 20mg daily cold turkey is very very horrible as you've just found out and my advice would be to ask your MMT clinic to bring you down gradually: like drop you 1or 2mg a week until you're off it.

Once off it remember to address the likely, no actually probable, PAWS (Post-Acute Withdrawal Symptoms) through some form of talking therapy, yoga, relaxation techniques etc.

Just my 2c and once again welcome to Bluelight - you'll find a wealth of expertise on this site and many kind people who'll help you and congratulations for taking the decision to get off the methadone - they don't call it "liquid handcuffs" for nothing...

Hi all, this is both an update and a message to suessmayr since I cannot PM yet........

Hi there (to all) and good job starting your detox (for suessmayr and Munkie) - it will be the best decision you've ever made.

I really didn't start feeling any better at all until the 3 week mark. Even then, I found nothing sounded fun or exciting and the thought of even minor tasks left me exhausted. I've never used Bupe, but know it stays in your system as long or longer than Methadone. I've heard it is slightly better from some and just as bad from others. Either way, you're in for a long haul off Bupe or Methadone.

I found I would feel better one day and then the next have withdrawal symptoms hit me again, especially the flu feeling and sore legs and lower back. I really had no energy until just recently and even now it isn't back to what it was. It has now been around 2 months for me and I'm really just starting to feel like myself again. I got back into the gym last week Monday and have gone every day since. That is getting easier now that I'm back in the groove, but leaves me exhausted. One good thing is that just recently I have started sleeping better without waking up ever 15-30 minutes. It's nice to only wake up 2-3 times during the night.

All in all, it was the 2nd hardest thing I've ever done (the first being going 14 days CT from 120-150 Mg the time previous), but I'm starting to see the light at the end and it looks OH SO GOOD. Planning a trip in August and one in October without being chained to a clinic - excited about that. I'm not myself yet, but at this point it is certainly tolerable and I'm very thankful I made it. I'll never touch Methadone again......EVER.

If you need any help, have questions, or want to chat feel free to PM me anytime. I hope things are going ok for you - my thoughts will be with you.
