Hello, I have been taking Oxy regularly the last 5 months, usually a 20mg dose chewing the pill, I will often take this every 4 hours up to 4 times a day. Last month I took a 2 week holiday from the drug. So when I started up again I took 15 mg every 4 hours for about 2 weeks then 20mg every 4 hours this past week. However, I am not able to feel good anymore in fact this week I got headaches and dizziness and none of the desired effects of the drug. Can I up my dose to 30mg now? I have taken 30mg in the past. Just worries as know I am defeating the time release coating and scared of oding.

Headache and dizziness are both possible side effects of Oxycodone, if you are getting them after taking your dose that is most likely what they are.

Your 2 week break may have lowered your tolerance a bit, but you are back at 20mg now anyways, so you have been using 20mg for almost 6 months now and probably have some tolerance. I wouldn't worry about about an OD from taking 30mg doses, but if you are taking it 4 times a day, that is an extra 40mg every day. If you aren't getting desired effects anymore, you might consider a smaller increase maybe to 25mg/dose so you won't be increasing your tolerance as fast.

if they are OP Oxycontin then I wouldn't be worried about breaking the time release, because I guarantee you aren't defeating it at all.

Sounds like you just took a little too much to cause the dizziness.

Thank you for the responses. The Oxycontin I am taking are not the new ones they have not hit Manitoba yet. I seemed to have had a bad couple days with my oxy in terms of reaching the desired effects. Likely my tolerance is increasing and I need to take more to reach the place I want to be. Time for me to take a drug holiday so I can go back to enjoying my 15-20 mg doses. In the meantime 25-30mg seemed to work well. Again thank you for the reassurance as I am trying to be a responsible drug user. Lol. Debbie

We still have the CDNs around here also, and I haven't heard anything about the OPs coming here any time soon at least.

Smart call on the holidays though. If you have the willpower, I would say its a much better choice than to be forever increasing your dose.

yes you are tolerant, and increasing your dosage might not suffice.

This is a fairly basic thread though, so I am going to close it. If the OP doesn't understand why, I would urge them to check out the links in my signature first, then to PM me if they still have unanswered questions. :)
