Hi guys

to make this as quick as possible ill get straight to point. Been prescribed diazepam 10mg for daily use for 2 weeks now for bad anxiety, and still have enough for another 2 weeks and my doc says he wont just take me off them.

I have a big wedding to go to tomorrow and already really anxious etc etc. Alcohol used to get me through everything. I would shake so badly with anxiety drinking the first pint but after 2-3 I would feel relaxed and sociable etc etc

is their any chance I can drink tomorrow? even if I don't take any diazepam at all? so I will have had 10 mg today in total? or is it a no no? or can I do both, but literally like 1 or 2 pints?

I don't pln on getting drunk or off my face and wont abuse the benzos and mix the two or anything like that. Just the benzo's don't give me the confidence alcohol does ya know, and when everyone else is having a good time, I feel ill be sat their like a zombie just wanting to leave?

any help would be greatly appreciated as its no 9pm and need to know if I take my tablet when I wake up :)

10mg and some beer isnt gunna kill you. the worst ive been through was 3mg klonopin and a bunch of beer and 5 shots of 90 proof rum. i was stuck laying on the carpet really fucked up but i never felt like i was gunna die or anything just felt really heavy and couldnt get up for maybe an hour and a half

but dont beat yourself up about everyone else having a good time while you just sit there like a zombie....when im really drunk and i start to fit in and mingle with the social people i actually feel like an idiot the next day because its not who i am....idk tho it does feel better to socialize because people start to make comments like "wow this is the most ive heard you talk john your actually a pretty cool guy, why are you usually quiet?"

idk....do you relate to what i posted at all? all the docters ive gone to refuse to prescribe me any benzo. they always want to put me on zoloft which im not gunna take a chance with. ive always been the quiet person since i hit puberty. i just took a 2mg xanax and the weight is lifted off my shoulders

Either take the valium or drink beer but don't use both together. Especially being you're at a festive occasion and other people will be drinking. It's easy to have good intentions and say you will just have one pint. But will be harder to do once you get started.

You could have an unwanted reaction to the combination of the two substances, even if you can handle them individually. Even thought that is rather unlikely, it's comparably easy to get "wasted" on benzos+alcohol. If I were you, I'd take a smaller dose or none at all (depending on the severity of your anxiety). How about drinking very little just before the wedding instead of the pills?

Learn from my failure. I was concerned that I was going to drop a workmate at the xmas party so I took 10 or 15 mg of diazepam & forgot I took them. I ended up drinking 20 beers or so & suggesting to the VP that we should get some coke & cook up crack. Luckily he thought I was joking but yeah it was not my finest hour.

I would suggest 5mg & a couple of drinks but no more or you will likely not remember the wedding & what you may or may not have done. Just take it easy & you will be fine but I swear mixing alcohol & benzos seems to hugely potentiate each other so watch out.

Alcohol and benzos are not a good mix especially at a wedding. Don't drink too much and you will be fine. Or just don't drink at all and take the diazapam.

Not smart to mix, although being careful with your benzos as well as drastically slowing your pace on the drinking should have you be ok.
I am in no way recommending it though, benzos and alcohol have the potential to be fatal if you're not careful.
I have been able to do 8mg of clonazepam and drink like 20oz of gin and not even blackout, was still an AWFUL idea

bad idea mixing them man. I would ask for a different benzo from the doctor, valium has a very long half life. So if you took it today, it will be in your system tomorrow still, so don't take another on the day of the wedding, and stick with having a couple drinks, it increases the effects of alcohol 20-100 hrs after your last dose and greatly increases the possibility of blacking out. So whether you take it on the wedding day or not, you should be careful drinking. Have a good time man, glad you asked! Alcohol also gives me alot of confidence, sometimes too much hahaha

Even if the bigger part of contributors advises against the combination, I can't understand how someone could say that this is safe (at low doses).
Benzos+Booze is the most uncontrollable combination there is imo. Nothing impairs you more without even recognizing it and keeping it at one drink is very improbable.

Doing this at a wedding sounds like a recipe for desaster. Just don't.

I agree with DickTate that alcohol, diazepam, and a wedding is an almost cliched recipe for disaster.

Diazepam stays in your system for a long time, so you'll still feel quite intoxicated even if you skip the morning diaz and then just have a few drinks at the wedding.

It all comes down to how much self-control you have. I'm sure some people can manage it. They are probably a precious minority, however. Just like other posters are saying, mixing the two - and drinking the day after having taken diazepam is still mixing, due to diazepam's very long half-life - is one of the hardest combos to self-regulate.

Once fear and self-preservation go out the window it's all downhill from there.

It's a horrible situation to be in. Relying on benzos for social gatherings, I mean. I can fully relate to it, so I'm not judging you at all. Just saying that needing one or both of those 'tools' to get you through is less than ideal. Personally, I'd stick to the diazepam and not drink, even if it means I'm a boring person at a party.

Anyway, good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi guys!

Thanks for all the replys, lots of useful stuff. I think most of you seem to say its a no go. Which is a shame. I was hoping if I did not have any benzos today I would have been able to drink and then just pick up my daily dosage of 10mg again tomorrow. Ive never really took more than 2.5mg at a time of benzos .......10mg 4X a day........but today im gunna take it in the full 5mg tablets. Do you think because im new to benzos and never took much at once, and I never intend on abusing the drug for recreational value, that it probably will give me a close feeling that alcohol would anyway?

Some people say that benzos are awesome for confidence and social anxiety at first (I guess in their first 6 months before they start to increase and get hooked etc etc) But I just haven't felt it. At the most its made me be able to go to a shop, without feeling like I need to run out 5 mins later. Maybe im just not feeling the desired effects because im not dosing right??? . 1 and half hours to go before wedding so any feedback appreciated. thanks guys!

Great.....well im back from the wedding early.........took 7.5mg of diazepam before we got their...the most ive ever took in 1 god and it still didn't shake the nerves at all!!!! was shaking, not feeling comfortable at all, de-realized........so my mum and dad made me small glasses of champagne mixed with orange juice.........literally about quatre of a glass of champagne and 2/3s orange juice. after 3 of them still didn't feel great or much less anxious infact everytime I feel a little feeling now and then, I was scared it was because I mixed diazepam and about the equivlant of 1 flute of champagne!!!!! So today, I went saw the ceremony and was in the pictures but when it was time for everyone to sit down and eat and talk me and my g.f had to leave......now she is in a mood with me.........What do I have to do to get relaxed and comfortable.....????? all it took was 2pints of lager before and I would start to relax......now I cant even have that and the benzos really don't seem to do much but make me tired at the most. I just want to be able to have a laugh........alcohol provided that and made me atleast enjoy some stuff.......am I not taking enough benzo's ?????? is this big thing of mixing alcohol and 10mg of diazepam all blown out of proportion......as I am not silly and wouldn't go on a bender after taking benzos.... but a few pints. Really guys im struggling......I really thought I would go and take more benzos then usual and I would be calm and fine and like a wonder drug......but really didn't make any/much difference. I know I only took 7.5mg while I was their but for someone who has only been on for 13 days at 10mg for every whole day that surely shud have helped????

sorrys for rant but please some replys

.as I am not silly and wouldn't go on a bender after taking benzos....

That is exactly the attitude which usually causes the classic blackout. The problem is that the combination disinhibits so much that people tend to forget how much they took/drank and do more until the lights go out. It is also common on benzos not to recognize how fucked up you are...but everyone else does

Look at your starting post and compare it to your last one ;)

The dose should theoretically lower your anxiety especially with champagne in the mix.

sorry I don't mean to be rude....but im not quite sure what you mean by comparing my 2 threads? I guess im not a guy that abuses drugs to get recreational value from. I just want to be able to smile, enjoy, have a laugh etc etc. anyone with serious anxiety should be able to understand where im coming from. Now if your saying that the alcohol I took, should lower my anxiety along with the dose I took, I think your right. I think it did .........not greatky, but I do think it did.............but all I could think of is people saying not to mix it, blackouts, crazy things etc etc lol. I really am the kinda guy who knows when to stop. What im trying to say is, I understand that people say don't mix alcohol and benzos, because I imagine if people said it was ok, people would go out and get drunk and then not know wha happened the night before. But for someone who really believes if I say im having '2' pints can actually stick to that , is their any real danger? If I took 10mg of diazepam and had 2 pints.....will ill pass out? black out? wird feelings? not remember ? or will it just simply help with the anxiety?

I understand that if I was to be having 6 pints then I would be asking for trouble which im not.......Anxiety is a hard one, lol, even when taking diazepam I still get anxious even tho I know I take them to reduce it, lol.

Hey Zeano, I don't think if you have a pint or two anything bad will happen. Just make sure you're in for the night and don't go anyplace. Your girlfriend is with you right? It's just the harm reduction thing and people don't want to see you having a bad reaction or making a habit out of mixing alcohol and valium.
