Help me make Fish & Chips

Beautiful fish, wow, 71cm minimum size, now that's proper conservation.

I'm gonna get more into the beach and rock fishing again this year, been doing more boat fishing the last couple of years, which is great for the bigger fish, but there's something about shore fishing feels more like a hunt, if you know what I mean.

One day i'll get a 10lb+bass, one day...

I use surface poppers a lot round the rocks in strong currents, but only with little 7ft spinning rods, very closein.....light poppers, 20-30g each max....lure fishing has been slow to take off over here to the extent it has in the States, but I like it, active way to fish and seek out the fish
 
Tins, particularly 'diamond jigs' are the standard here. And yes, fishing from the shore is definitely more of a hunt. Do you chase the birds over there? Over here if you see a flock of birds diving towards the water, you know there is a school of fish there attacking bait fish, and the birds dive down to get the pieces of bait fish that are floating around. People drive their Jeeps up and down the beach chasing after the birds all day, so it's definitely more of a hunt.

hahaha, yeah, birds are one of the big signs, we use them more when we on the boat, as can shoot across to where the birds are diving, usually after shoals of mackerel chasing baitfish, and you know the big bass are underneath picking off the mackerel...great sport :)

People in UK don't really use jeeps etc for shore fishing like you find in US, Aus, and south Africa....it''s more a case of setting up camp and settling yourself in for the night, or travelling light and following the tide, fishing gullies as they fill, or looking for signs of surface activity.

Jigs and pirks we use more on the boat, big pirks up to 600g each, mirror finish, we use them over wrecks for cod, but they can catch bass too.

For bass fishing from the shore my favourite method is a live sandeel, from the boat a live mackerel.....if I using artificials on the boat jellies/softbaits are very popular here, sidewinders, Eddystone Eels...also good for pollack and cod....as you know, every angler has his/her own "deadly" lure, or colour....last year for me the rhubarb and custard sidewinder was supreme... :D

Pirks for wrecking, also use them in plain mirror finish, or a lumo version for the deeper wrecks...

love fish, the bass fish mentioned is so nice,

might have to get some nice fish this weekend, getting a bit bored of the usual sardines, tuna, pilchards etc. quite fancy some smoked haddock or smoked mackerel or something
