There is this specific word I heard being described once, but I cannot remeber what that word was. The word describes the accumulation of troubling events that result in a person to have a negative response or a nervous breakdown. But the emphasis of the word is more refering to the actual "build up" of the situation.

I can give you an example explaining the word...Lets say you have a bad day at work and then followed by a traffic jam on the way home, when you finally arrive home you find the kids fighting, your husband being cold and unattentive to the situation, etc etc, and even though each individual situation would not be sufficient enough to make you over-react however the collection of the days events causes a response that finally pushes you over the edge causing you to have a meltdown over something as small as opening the fridge to get a drink but finding an empty bottle in there.

The word can also decribe the reason behind an over-reaction, so lets say somone has been anoying you for sometime bit by bit over the course of weeks or months but eventually when you snap at them over the smallest thing it is motivated by the build up of frustration and anger from previous confrontations.

So the word is more about the accumulation of those events that lead to a final outcome.

The word is similar to an idiom like "the final straw" however the word is not an idiom, it is more of a descriptive single word.

Thanks for any help.

I can tell you the word is not:

- build up
- escalation
- culmination
- agglomeration
- breaking point

The word I am after is a lot more specific to describing the example in my post. Also it is a fairly uncommon word and somewhat negative in its emotion.

While I know exactly what you are describing (don't we all?:)) having been swept away on that tidal wave, flattened by that hurricane and sucked up into the vortex of that tornado and destroyed by it many times over; I cannot for the life of me come up with a single word to describe it.

If you find it, please post it because now I am very curious!=D
