sorry for posting in two areas. mod please delete either my post here or in the other drugs whichever is the correct place...

im prescribed 40mg of instant release dextroamphetamine per day for narcolepsy (dont take it every day though and when i do usually just 10 or 20mg)... even though i take it at 8am it lingers until night. im also prescribed 3mg of klonopin which i take at night but it still isnt enough to put me to sleep.

i am now looking for sleep aids and they are hard to find. dipenhydramine increases heart rate which wouldnt help so the only substance i know is melatonin. i used to take 5mg and it would knock me out but now on a night after taking my dexedrine and klonopin i can take over 30mg of melatonin and still not fall asleep.

obviously the easy answer is to not take the dexedrine but i am tryin to find a solution for the days i need to take it. did i just get a high tolerance to melatonin?? if there are better sleep aids to take after amps please let me know

Klonopin or benzos are your best bet here or something like ambien. melatonin isn't really a sedative its not meant to put you to sleep when your not tired it helps you get into a sleep schedule.

klonopin is a benzo :p currently ive taken 5mg of xanax tonight ( i have both klonopin and xanax prescribed) and i still cant sleep and i have classes starting at 7am.

i dont know much about ambien ill do some research. i wish i could just take a tylenol pm but increased heart rate just means less sleep.

Ha sorry meant klonopin or OTHER benzos.

Do you have a high tolerance to benzos? Sorry to hear, I've had many nights where I couldn't sleep due to amphetamines with class in the morning as well. It sucks but if none of that is helping you might have to just accept its not happening tonight

yea i do. when i take benzos for amphetamine comedowns i have to take way more than usual to feel the effects which then raised my tolerance extremely fast. ive tried provigil, nuvigil, ritalin (which i really didnt give a chance because honestly i wanted the amphetamine so i could have fun occasionally) have you tried ritalin? i know it has a much shorter half life

benzos are good for anxiety & they help a little with sleep.
if u'r taking benzos just for sleep than u'll get a really large tolerance which im sure u dont want.

u should try antipychotics. seroquel or something. not addictive & they will put u right to sleep.
they dont help much with anxiety though. antipychotics are also antihistamines

otc promethazine is suppose to have less hangover than diphenhydramine.
promethazine (brand name phenergan) is a weak antipychotic u can just get at the pharmacy.
it's quite strong. if that's not good enough go to the dr.

dont bother with ambian. it's really weird

We've just had a thread all about good sleeping aids - you can find it by clicking here.

The only other thing to add is good sleep hygiene - sounds daft but it can make a difference. Have a set bedtime and waking up time; no TV or computer for an hour before bed; no caffeine from late afternoon; bed used only for sleeping; warm bath/hot milky drink before bed (am sure there's more but I can't remember it now..)

As we've just had a long thread all about sleeping pills I'm going to close this, but feel free to shoot me a pm if you can't find your answer in the thread I linked.

EDIT:

Had a message from Glitched - someone in this position should probably go and see their doctor - insomnia after prescribed amphetamines can't be uncommon, and they know of someone with narcolepsy who got into a mess self-medicating sleeping pills. Thank you for the advice Glitched :)

I agree - talk to your doctor!
