Help I've hit an artery!!

Oh my fucking god I just hit my first artery.
In the crook of my right elbow, hurt like fucking mad when I first did it, the pain has gone but my entire hand has swollen up, my arm from the elbow down is red and really hot, I can't make a fist and I feel a bit sick (though I think that's from the adrenaline/shock).

What do I do? is this dangerous, do I need to go to hospital? Christ it's swelling up more, how long is it going to be like that?

Yes, you absolutely do need to go to hospital. Arteries can go into spasm, cutting off the blood supply to your limb - you need to be seen by a doctor ASAP as there is a risk of losing your arm if the blood supply is interrupted for too long..

I don't mean to panic you, they should be able to treat you in hospital if the blood supply to your arm is compromised, but it is absolutely essential that you get yourself to A+E/the ER as soon as possible!
