help interpreting test results

Here's the scenerio....

This concerns a Marquis reagent tester that is about 2.5 years old and had been used reliably many times in its first year or so. It had not been used within the past year. It was stored in a dry, dark place.

To make sure the tester still works NOW, it is used to test a white pill that is already KNOWN to contain MDMA. The reaction starts to turn purple in about 5-10 seconds and goes to a darker purple within about 20-30 seconds. The reaction is a little slower than when the tester was originally used to test this batch 1.5 years ago, but it still seems to work.

Now an unknown pill is tested. The pill is pink in color. In about 5-10 seconds the reaction starts to turn orange/brown and goes to a darker orange/brown within about 20-30 seconds. There is no blue/purple/black detected at all in the mix.

This is the typical reaction for a pill containing some sort of speed-like substance. But 3 experienced rollers have now taken pills from this batch and they all claim to have rolled quite nicely from them. The roll was described as being somewhat speedy, but not to excess.

I'm wondering if the tester is simply unreliable because of its age. But if the tester no longer reacts to MDMA, why would it react correctly with a control pill? Is it possible that an older tester will react correctly with a pure MDMA pill but will only react to the speed in a pill with a very high speed to MDMA ratio? Or perhaps, is the color dye in the pill skewing the result?

Please do not simply reply that a new tester should be used. That's obvious. I want to know how to interpret the results from the tester that was used. Thanks!

whatever other people may say: there is a speed substance present.
Any mdxx should have given a purple/black reaction. the slower reaction you saw was because the test is a bit old. It still works...
speed also makes you feel euphoric and dancy, so maybe they mistook it for e.

If a pill contains BOTH a speed-like substance and MDMA... then wouldn't you expect to see a reaction that contained BOTH orange/brown and blue/purple/black? Is it possible that the amount of speed caused an overwhelming reaction of orange/brown such that you couldn't see the blue/black/purple?

If there was only 1 unreliable report from someone who tried the pills, then I would question whether they felt MDMA effects. But since THREE different EXPERIENCED and reliable people all reported feeling MDMA effects, and they were repeatedly questioned "are you sure it wasnt speedy & euphoric, but not really MDXX?", and they didn't do them in a club setting so they weren't just caught up in the moment... it makes me question the tester results.

I should have even more reports this weekend so I'll report back on what I find out.

No. Generally any MDxx, even the tiniest amount, will overwhelm a speed reaction. This isn't to say you can't see speed reactions within some MDxx reactions, it's just that if any MDxx is present it will dominate.

Never underestimate the power of placebo when it comes to drugs, legal or otherwise.

The verdict is in. They were definately NOT MDxx. They gave quite a euphoric rush for about a half hour that felt like an MDxx comeup.... but they were lacking those wonderful happy and blissful qualities. I think they are mostly a speed-like substance but they might also contain something else. One has been sent in for lab tests and I'll let ya know when its posted. thanks for the help!!!

LESSON LEARNED: Never doubt your tester results!
