I get 90, 10mg percocet a month for bulging disk and other issues spine. I have real pain and depression from it because of many issues. I run out 4-6 days after my script is filled and feel horrible like im in hell the rest of the month. Then I just lay around for 4 or 5 days withdrawling. Im misserable because I want to be able to take my medication responsibly to feel normal and pain free, but i dont seem to have the willpower and always take more. I have given them to to my wife to dispense, but I always find where she hides them and take them anyways.

My only hope is to find an opiate medicine to help with my pain but discoureges abuse, mabe i need to take a time release so it wont give ups and downs like the percocet does?.

I was thinking either the new oxycontin formulation because you cannot break it with the waxy maze coating and it will release it over time without the ups and downs?, or mabe some sort of patch? Any help is appriciated?

Alot of people use methadone. However if you think what you're going through is hell.. try methadone WD's...

Also if your issues are so severe why aren't you on a long acting and short acting medication? Is your dr a complete idiot? Sure bulging discs are painful every disc in my neck is bulging but what else is up with you? More information would be helpful.

When I wind up short I slow it back mid month regardless of what "discomfort" it might cause me. I have even made my husband hide the opana from me. Oxymorphone WD is hellish as well. I tend to play hard for 2 weeks and calm down for 2 weeks.. seems to be a cycle for me. But I ALWAYS make my meds last til the drs appt in case of drug test.

Also you might want to consider non opiate medication, since you said you can't control yourself. I wish you the best of luck!

You can break the new oxy formulation as well, so that is probably the worst idea ever for you.

Perhaps you could try meds like cymbalta, lyrica, gabapentin, ibuprofen ect. Try a completely non opiate regimen.

You don't mention what other meds you are prescribed such as anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, medication for nerve pain, etc. Opiates alone are unlikely to control your pain in the longterm. There are also a range of non-drug therapies used to manage chronic pain which can help keep painkillers at lower doses and extend the period for which they're effective.

No would be a good time to talk to a pain management specialist about a comprehensive, multidisciplinary pain management plan for the future.

Not for nothin, but if your wife puts them in a place you CANT get them, even if you do find them, you aint gonna be able to take them. Get a high quality safe, not one of them shitty little lockboxes that you can bust up with a hammer but a serious, heavy duty fire safe, and your wife can wear the key around her neck and keep it with her always. She must suck at hiding shit if you can find it that easily.

Im sorry I cant offer a better piece of advice but this would seem to be the best short term suggestion to help you deal with it for right now til you find a better solution.

She could also keep the pills WITH her when she goes out, to work, etc, wherever she might be goin. if the pills are with HER instead of in the house with you, that would also make it impossible for you to find them and then take them all.

Please excuse me if I'm way off base, but this sounds a lot like an addiction problem with your percs.
You don't say the pain is unbearable, but rather you have no "willpower" to keep from taking excess amounts.

If I am right, you need to really re-think your situation. If you have, or are getting a problem, with opiates, you won't be any better off switching to the "contin" type meds.
I run out monthly, just like you. And I have done this with OC, Opana, Morphine, and even Methadone.
Basically, my tolerance has just went up, and up and my daily doses go up accordingly.

My problem also started with a ruptured disk. But I found that opiates really don't help the "nerve" pain, all that much.
Actually "weed" is the BEST, IMO.
But if you are starting to chase the pills, for higher, and higher doses, you will soon find out what real pain is truly all about.

Again, I don't really know if you are developing a real problem with opiates. But if so, think about stopping it, before it really gets out of hand.
I've been there and done that and it's really no fun.
Feel free to PM me if you ever need to talk.

Best

I am not book smart when it comes to how medications work on the brain, however I think someone specialized in this field can help you.
Phschiatrist spend much of their time studying medicine and how it works, and they also offer therapy if you feel you need someone to talk to that can offer some words of advice and direction.

They have dealt with many people facing similar issues and they are not usually judgemental and most often understanding and can offer you all the possibilities in order for you to reachh a solution

I think you should really consider seeking help from someone with extended schooling and knowledge. Sorry I can not give this to you without possibly being incorrect in my information

goodluck, and dont give up as I believe you can solve your problem<3

i live in australia, i have the same problem as you, my wife hides my stuff or i verbally abuse her untill i get it.

i started (fentanyl duragesic) patches and because i cant get them to stick to my skin i cut them into 3 peices (3 day patches) and suck on a small peace every 4 hourly.

if you have a good relationship with your pharmacy you can ask them to hold onto your tablets or patches and only daily dosage,

tell your wife to buy a $50 safe, bolt it to the wall, put the medication in there and only let her have access to it.

although probably none of us here are schooled in helping most, of us here have the actual experience and have been in your situation.

try to remind your self that the 5 days of pain that come after you finish.

really try to make a medication saving (store some tablets in a safe place for keeping your withdrawals away), no doctor in the world will tell you to store medication
any body with half a mind will tell you its a great idea.

and most of all remind your self you can do it.
because you can do it.
you are stronger than your problem
