I have been on xanax 0.5mg 2 a day for about 4 years now. went to my pain Dr last week and he asks why I have tested negative for my xanax for the last 2 months? I usually take 2 a day if not atleast 1 everyday. How could this happen?? I'm also on methadone and percocet and these levels were fine. I do have 2 liver diseases but if anything you would think i would have too much in my system. PLEASE HELP!:?

I would say that you have to redo the test, and also to be grateful that you are having a problem with something NOT showing up on a test rather than having something that IS showing up.
Definitely be adament in your assertion that you ARE indeed taking them, and try and get further testing done, if it's in there, than there's a way to find it, no matter what.
Sorry about your predicament though, a very different problem than most drug testing questions on bluelight.

Unfortuantely pain doctors are required to randomly test people to make sure their meds are showing up, proving they are taking them and not selling them, this is just another tool in their war on drugs, the thing is tho, most addicts switched to H once it got tough to get percs, and other opiate painkillers, so lawmakers NOW have a bunch of heroin addicts instead of having pain pill addicts...basically it backfired on them LOL

I guess they were stupid enough to think all these former pain pill addicts would just quit using if they couldnt get their pills anymore!! DUH, of course, they are going to seek out another opiate they can get, which is also much cheaper..NO brainer imo.

They will probably discharge you, they probably dont have a choice, I was discharged from the pain doc I had been with over 12 yrs for ONE drug test where they found morphine, they had me on methadone, that showed up on the test, but since morphine did too..that was it for me, automatic discharge, I couldnt even get them on the phone after this test either, they just would not reply or call me back...dont be mad at them though, its the law makers who pushed for this.

I cannot believe the big pharmaceutical companies and doctors unions didnt FIGHT this law more either...I mean, look at alcohol and tobacco, and all the problems they cause, yet NO ONE ever even suggests new regulations or laws on either of them!! they must have some damn good lobbyists is all I can guess, maybe big pharma needs to hire some of these people?

Do you kniw what type of test they are using? There are either the instant dipstick tests which are unreliable at best, or they are sent to a lab.

Either way i guess, dirzted is correct, you need to be assertive with them, and request another test be done. Or a more thoroug testing of the sample they already have.

second opinion? i thought that was basically a human right?
although, my knowledge on your countries (rather esoteric) drug laws are somewhat limited.

While some chemicals (found in foods etc) can slow down metabolism of certain benzos, causing a build up; there are also plenty of chemicals that speed up the metabolism of certain benzos. On top of that, cigarettes have been shown to lessen the effects of Xanax and a few other benzos as well as speed up their metabolism.

To top it off, everyone's body is different and there are plenty of people whose bodies process most benzos way quicker than others. Knowing that, 1mg a day spread out over two doses isn't really a lot of Xanax, and I would wager a guess that if you had a fast benzo metabolism, or smoked cigs etc... that when you got tested you were barely under the cutoff value for a positive result.

Just tell your doctor the truth, ask for a retest or something ( I don't really know how that works.) Could it be possible it was diluted, and since you take so little Xanax daily it just didnt register with the immunoassay? I would seriously face-to-face with your Doc, if what you tell us is true, I'm sure something can be figured out for a solution.

Hey.... at least you didn't fail a court-mandated drug test and get sent to prison :) there's always a bright side.

NO chance for a second test, or a second opinion...unfortunately the DEA here is extremely tough on doctors and pain mgt offices, ONE failed drug test and its automatic discharge, nothing the doctors can do about it, if they try, they can loose their license!

The fucking DEA PIGS are overstepping their bounds with this imo, how dare they come between my doctor and I, especially regarding them trying to slow down the illegal pain pill market...PLEASE, give me a fucking break, how are they getting away with this anyway?!! I would have expected more people to stand up and demand this law be repealed, its clearly wrong, but when big pharma companies, doctors unions/associations, and majority of patients do absolutely NOTHING totry and fight this fucking law, of course the DEA is going to get what it wants...PEOPLE, its way overdue to stand up to these fuckers and put a stop to them and their miserable 'war on drugs' lol It wont take long, just make it 'uncomfortable' for them for a short time and those laws will be repealed imo.
