Benzos help. about to withdrawl from 11 years of use

i can't edit my posts for some reason. but anyway, this is an 80 year old GP who just lost his wife 6 months ago. not a psychiatrist. he prescribed me adderall when I ask for ritalin and xanax when I ask for valium. anyway, gonna see him tomorrow and if he doesn't listen I am going to take my 1mg xanax script I hope he gives me and find a real DR.

Hey there OP, forgive me I have not read all of the content in this thread, because I feel the need to respond urgently to address this potentially life threatening condition.

How many hours has it been since your last dose?

At 11 years of dependency, your risk of seizures is EXTREMELY HIGH and abrupt discontinuation IS TOTALLY OUT OF THE QUESTION.

Go to an Emergency Room if you can get a ride or call 9-1-1 and tell them the following:

-Hello, I am heavily dependent on legitimately prescribed benzodiazepines taken for the past decade and fear for my life.
-I had grand maul seizures the last time this happened in 2005
-I need an anticonvulsant like diazepam or lorazepam, and I need it right now.

Do not hesitate to contact me via private message if you need additional help, if there is anything I can do to help I want to do it, but abrupt discontinuation is out of the question, and again, I apologize that I have not read this thread in it's entirety, but your body is a ticking time bomb and it's really important to cover this stuff right away, time is a factor.

Jeah it's been over 12 hours since you started this thread.
Please tell us what you did.

I took a mg of clonazeam an hour ago and have .5mg left for tomorrow. if my doc doesn't give me my xanax script I am going to the ER/48 hour psych place friday. When I get a real doctor I am going to do a 3 month diazepam taper. something like 10mg for 2 weeks, 7.5 for 2 weeks, 5mg for 2 weeks, 2mg for 2 weeks, 2mg every other day for 4 weeks, then maybe 1mg every other day for 2 weeks. then quit and have valerian handy. thats my plan.

and even if he does give me my script I am going to find a new doc.

11 years would most certainly kill you if you do not find a benzodiazepine. I recieved 30x 2mg xanax pills about 8 months ago, did them all in the span of about 2 weeks and ended up in the hospital due to the fact that my sister found me home, laying on the floor, due to a seizure, because i had no way or knowledge of what was even happening. So i can easily say, that after 11 years, you should go to the ER as soon as possible if you cannot obtain a benzo.

I still say Klonopin is the way to go, because they make Klonopin Wafers .125mg (yup, 0.125mg) and it's available as a generic, and most insurance plans with even pay for it if your doc does a prior authorization and says it's for 6 weeks of tapering off klonopin. You'd use the .125mg as you are near the end. It's the final last doses where your risk is the highest for seizure and death. I saw a super old doc ten years ago who laughed when he mentioned the end of the tapering with the smallest dose is the riskiest, saying "we use to think when we treated alcoholics with this stuff, and they died, it was because they went back to drinking and died from coming off that." Turns out, it was the benzo withdrawal (or was it barbiturates he tried at the time? I forget; both were tried back then for it; still are). He had a dry humor. Anyhow, the lower the dose you can end off with, the less the risk is you will get seizures, which is why I strongly encourage going with klonopin, which gives you the .125mg Klonopin Wafer option (not tablet, the wafer; you can take the tablets until you need the .125mg dose). again, they're generic.

Klonopins not good for tapering because it's still to potent. Valium is way better (weaker potency longer half life, active metabolites) and I used it to taper my self when I was in a similar situation. The good thing you got going for you is I think you said your only taking 1mg of xanax a day, at least that's on the lower end of the spectrum. So you got a couple of options. Going on valium and tapering off of it, or just staying on your script. I'm sure you'll avoid a seizure as long as you dont cold turkey. So basically the only thing you need to do is find a new Dr. then make up your mind on what you want to do. If you do decide to taper off let me know if you have any questions. Also visit www.benzo.org/uk and read up.

ya i'm gonna try and get my alpazolam script tomorrow and then find a DR for a doctor next week for a diazepam taper. if he says no then it will be emergency time. but all is well, thanks everyone. I want to slowly taper off this 1st semester back. I will keep you guys updated.

and ya even those .125 wafers are still about 2mg of diazpeam. and you can break those into quarters and have .5mg of diazepam but I amm gonna jump off at 1mg. plus active metabolites like opana said.

Although it's less common, and often can be less-desirable for some, but beneficial to others, it's important to remember Chlordiazepoxide (Librium), the most OG benzo of them all.

I still condone the diazepam taper, but it's going to be up to the mercy of the prescribing physician in the end.

ya I didn't want to confuse the elderly man. got my 1mg alpazolam a day. also got 60 10mg addies. meh, i'll have those for half a year. I have adhd so bad I fucking hate amphetamines. they always make me sleep yet euphoric. same with coke. blah. I want off the fuckin benzos so I can indentify myself. thanks ya'll.

damn just got the coke smell in my nose...

Librum works also but not as well as valium. The effects even feel "old school" there really not that great, not much euphoria to speak of. Valium has way more euphoria and better anti-anxiety effects.

Be careful taking adderall, it's going to make xanax a lot less effective. Stimulants increase anxiety and sleep issues so keep that in mind.

i just slept like a baby for 4 hours. I always tell people i have smoked meth once and slept for 6 hours after I smoked it. I forgot just how serious I was. so ya, 45 min after taking 25mg of adderall and .5mg xanax I fell asleep for 4 hours. kinda renders one speechless. woke up cold with muscles sore. gonna take 10 more mg with an antacid and then that will be it for the day. i am just... amazed. is my adhd really that bad? i guess so.

Goodness, after I take my adderal I can't sleep for anything :/ no win with me can't focus & insomnia

Op go to the hospital, let them know your situation, maybe bring your last pill bottle, and they will/should give you enough to taper.
benzo withdrawl is serious shit, you can die.

Agreed, great post. I don't think diazepam produces euphoria, but everything else in this post is spot on.
To clarify, I wasn't recommending chlordiazepoxide over diazepam, in my original post I recommended diazepam or lorazepam IIRC, I just wanted to remind people that it is an alternative option that gets the job done without any bells or whistles.

It works really well for people detoxing off of alcohol.

diazepam produces a 'benzo euphoria' if you don't have a tolerance. It used to make me feel reallllly good at 10mg. Now 200mg wouldnt even touch me. I think lorazpeam is a better taper drug for various reasons, though it has to be administered more frequently.
