Hello (Post Serotonin Syndrome Story)
Hi
Chronic pain patient here in texas. Multiple neck fusions and all that goes with that( never will be the same, still coping with that). Retired at 43 bored. Looked at the site often for advice about the meds being sent my way in the aftermath of surgeries etc.
Recently my dad had two brain bleeds, ensuing stress sent me off to find depression help. Script for Zoloft and some osmotic constipation stuff given(opiods/idiopathic constip) and Prevacid(ulcer go figure). Took two 100 Zoloft (1 night then 1 next am) went back to sleep and woke up in a nightmare. Having been a medic for some years I finally called 911 for myself. Looking back on my experiences and this deal I think we are all hard wired to know when we are in life threatening jeopardy
Whether we are sober or able to get help coming non withstanding and I knew this was bad.
Symptoms (came in waves, both started when I was asleep)
pins and needles center of hands feet and face under eyes (possibly worse symptom). They felt like they were vibrating during the more severe episode.
Stomach cramps so severe I couldn't lay still
bowel movements.
BP out the roof
blown pupils
low grade temp
fuzzy consciousness.
urine retention
Just felt like I was gonna die.
-first ER trip result low potassium. Iv K then go home (thanks for the $$) after a terribly painful very distal potassium IV (that stuff burns; wow!, had it b4 don't remember that/oral supplement being that painful. Felt really stiff, nauseous light headed but happy to go home. Can't really blame the diagnosis makes some sense.
-second ER. Symptoms so much worse hands vibrating, tingling now under eyes stomach cramping so bad just writhing in discomfort; horrid. Weird neck pain I mean I have hardware but this was different. Sent packing six hours later. Follow up with nuero gastro. I told her str8 up "something is wrong doc I know my body, I mean why the syncope or numb hands?" I was expecting observation at minimum. Answer I don't know sir but I'm sure your life isn't in danger follow up with a gastro and ur nuero. Here's some carafate
This doc was disinterested. I want to give her props or mitigate things but c'mon. It does indeed have a 10% mortality rate. My fault I suppose I live in the Houston burbs I shoulda gone downtown to get a level 1 bed and a real nuero. I found even the Medics and support staff bored.
Sorry to be clear I had/have Serotonin Syndrome. I'm still looking for more answers and trying to find out how long I have to deal with it, I thought it was over but, to a lesser degree I'm still fighting it.
Anyway I'm very impressed with the knowledge in attendance from what I've read already and if I can share and help one more person it's worth putting my hand to sleep again....
