I just wanted to drop a quick introduction. Although I have just registered, I have used bluelight as a reference source for many months for multiple research purposes. I work in the environmental field and have focused on the ability of natural and/or biological systems to attenuate anthropogenic compounds - studying those mechanisms and trying to improve upon them. Much of the work has focused on the pharmaceutical and personal care products that have made their way into the environment and our water supplies. I am now considering expanding the breadth of my studies to include research chemicals, as these substances are becoming more and more prevalent and biotransformations/bioavailabilities have not been thoroughly evaluated. The physicological and neurological effects of these substances also interest me, although this is more of an academic curiosity than anything else.
