Hi everyone! Just thought I would finally sign up to your lovely community. I do have a quick question though... would asking a question about how to talk to a psychiatrist about how to get a prescription be against the rules here? I have terrible anxiety and in front of a doctor I seem to lose my words. I read the User Agreement and didn't see anything wrong (since there are no specifics and everything is legal), but I figured I would ask you guys before I get the boot on my first day here. Thank you very much for any help!

You stay classy, planet blue light!

We can't tell you what exactly to say to get a specific medication. All doctors are different and they'll prescribe you what they see fit. I do understand your anxiety though and have pretty bad anxiety myself. I'd suggest to just assure yourself before you see your doctor and during your appointment that he's there to help you. Perhaps just repeat a mantra such as "this will help me" or something like that might help you out during the appointment. Writing out what you want to say before the appointment and bringing what you wrote there could help a lot too.

For support with your anxiety, you should check out The Dark Side. I think you'll find a lot of caring and compassionate people there that know what you're going through. I wish you the best and hope to see you around Bluelight more. <3 <3

Yeah, just tell the truth, and be specific about your bodily symptoms (racing heart? fast breath?) or whatever it is that you have. Times of day you get anxious, situations that make you extra anxious. I think spork has a great idea, write out what you want to say before you go, which is a good practice before you go to a doctor of any sort, I tell my grandpa to do it because he gets mixed up before he goes in and forgets what he needs to say to the dr! Anyway, welcome. I have anxiety too, hope you find a solution to yours. BTW before you see the dr, there are some great anti-anxiety podcasts to download for free on itunes....Go to The Meditation Podcast. The intro podcast is good. Cheers! <3
