I've been reading/lurking around here for about a month and finally decided to join. I still can't believe there are forums like this where you don't get crucified or labeled a junky just because of the drugs you have to take on a daily basis to survive.... You guys are wonderful, keep up the great work!
I am a 40 yr old female who has a full time pain doctor ever since I broke my neck riding hunters/jumpers (horses) 15 yrs ago. Thank god I wasn't paralyzed permanently (only for about a month, scariest month of my life!), but I had to get a c-spine fusion and have had to get trigger-point injections ever since. Then, in 2000 I was diagnosed with an extremely rare auto-immune nerve disorder which again, left my right leg and left hand and wrist paralyzed for about a year this time. It's called Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP). The only thing that finally stopped it and put it in remission was high doses of prednisone, which made my weight shoot up from 115 to 157 within 6 weeks, among other things... But WAIT, THAT's not ALL! Just when I thought my life was coming back under my control, I noticed that my hips had started aching a bit... Well, long story shorter, the high doses of steroids caused something called Avascular Necrosis in my hips which is where the blood flow can't reach that area so the bones started dying. They immediately scheduled me for a bilateral total hip replacement surgery and because it was progressing so fast, they had to operate on both hips as quickly as possible. So in Feb. 2001, they did the second hip op 5 days after the first one and it was the worst pain I had ever been in in my entire life (up til that point). Anyway, between 2001-2005 I have had to have 3 more hip operations and I know I will need another one soon and am dreading it. Ok, I'm sorry for babbling, I PROMISE I'm almost done!
As far as meds, this is what I receive every month: 150 4mg Dilaudids, 120 10/325mg Percocets (for BT pain), 120 350mg Soma, 60 .25mg Halcions, 30 2mg Rohypnol (they're legal in Taiwan), and 90 .5mg Xanax.
Lately, my tolerance is going through the roof with the Dilaudids and Percs, well, with everything... Any suggestions? I will not IV, but anything else, including IM, I'm willing to consider.
Thanks for listening and for welcoming me to this great forum!
