Hi, I simply wanted to say hello here. I'm interested in the serious use vs. the recreational use of an hallucinogen/entheogens (Psychedelic Psychotherapy) for healing/consciousness-expanding/spiritual work. I'm 52 and never tried any of these "medicines" before. I take cymbalta and mirtazapine and buspar for depression. I feel that some of my depression is trauma based and feel like these anti-depressants leave me disconnected and limit my ability to dig deeper in my inner world to "do the work" of recovery. My intention is to work with a guide and integrate my discoveries during my journeywork with a therapist. It was suggested to me that my first experience would likely be with MDMA. However, from what I've read it is a very body draining experience. So I've been incorporating exercise and weight training to build my body. I also understand MDMA can add to serotonin loss, something I don't really need because of my depression. I've read posts that describe, rather extensively, a long, perhaps expensive list of pre and post supplements to ingest before and after the experience. I guess if I'm really serious about getting the best possible experience I should really try some of the supplement suggestions. I'm curious though if anyone might have another suggestion as to the type of entheogen I might consider that would allow me to do the work without the side-effects. I'm open to any experienced commentary in addition to any links you might add to guide me for I will read them in earnest.

Finally, I like to submit this from my search written by someone who has assisted individuals doing their work. ""to keep them safe, to guide them towards liberation, the end of automatic habit patterns, kneejerk reactions, towards heartfelt responses, love, acceptance and forgiveness. After one session with MDMA, people were able to sustain insights gained, without further assistance from the drug. Psychotherapy proceeded faster and deeper than before: the debilitating effects of shame have been annulled, heavily defended hearts opened, and stayed open, and people acquired the ability to enjoy the sacrament of every living moment without distraction by past regrets or future worries. No small gains!"

That sounds like a wonderful gift to experience. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to Bluelight :D I think that a good psychedelic psychotherapy would be Psilocybin, the hangover/afterglow isnt bad or harmful to your seretonin levels. The experience can be extremely insightful and at times euphoric (not to the extent of MDMA of course). But that's just my 2 cents. If you're willing to handle the hangover and if you're able to manage your use to occasional then go for it. I will just warn you how depressing the hangover is :) Check out our Ecstasy and Psychedelic Discussion forums, that will be a great way for you to make your choice.

I completely agree mate. The pursuit of higher knowledge, the sight into other dimensions of consciousness, and a deep understanding of the workings of the Universe has always been my goal. Substances will enhance whatever you put into them, so if you pursue these things you are guaranteed to find something out. The truth meets you halfway when you take the first steps to find it. I have had sessions in the past with people who listen to new monkey rave and talk shit. That has never appealled to me lol. My friends call me Mr. Universe, and it ain't because I take roids!! I'm 11 and 1/2 stone wet through lol. Consciousness expansion and the creation of music is more my forte. And John Lennon and Bill Hicks, the type of people who inspire me.
