First off I would like to say although I am just registering now I have been quietly creeping behind the curtains reading and learning. There have been some very inspiring posts and great information pertaining to about almost every question I wanted to have an answer for.
I would like to share my story in hopes that it may help someone as I feel this forum has helped me to finally kick this. It all started the same way for me as it did many of you. I started by getting electrocuted at work and so it did much damage to muscles along my back from a prolonged contraction. I did not bother complaining about the pain at the hospital as it was not really bad until a few days later. I was more concerned about having my heart checked out and the loonie sized burn on my left hand. (For all you non Canucks the Loonie is our 1 dollar coin).
Until that point I barely ever touched an aspirin. I had a friend who offered me something for the pain and really knew nothing about what it was. Well fast forward 10 years and here I am!
3 years of suboxone then clean for 6 months and right back on to the Suboxone! Grrr!!! Ok. Another 1 on Sub and I said screw it. Took time off work and tapered down to 1 MG and jumped. So 2 weeks in feeling pretty good and very coherent and alive again other than the gut rot that was driving me up the wall! The RLS was no fun either.
Here is where it starts to suck again. Access to a little bit of Methadone to help with the stomach would help for about 3 days at a time. But then somehow down the line I am up to 60MG a day! Whoa! This went on for 6 to 7 months. That was it!!!! I tapered down to about 20MG a day then jumped on to Sub again. Started out at 2 MG a day until day 7 when I had to jump up to 8 because of the long half life of Done. Here is what I found interesting. I could feel all of the full blown withdrawals underneath the Sub. Totally manageable but there none the less. People might find this too short but I then tapered down to 1 MG of Sub per day over the 3 weeks after the peak day of the Methadone.
I had a prescription for some Tramadol and used that right after the sub tapering off of it as well. All the time feeling the underlying WD of the Sub. Here I am 2 months off. Sleep is starting to finally be my friend again and the sneezing and restless legs are gone. I guess my point is that there is a lot of horror stories about Suboxone and I really want you to know that the 3 times I came off they were a walk in the park compared to a full agonist. Please don't be scared to come off of sub if you are stable at 1MG or .5. I won't lie. It will suck but not anywhere close to Done! There is actually more to what I did to prepare to get off and what I did while WD. Feel free to PM me and perhaps some of the other things I did can help you.
Thanks.
