Heimia salicifolia - ingredients and uses.

the usual rätsch comments:

preparation and dosage
Sinicuiche, the Mexican "forgetting potion", is extracted from the leaves:
“The preparation of the potion consists in placing the slightly withered leaves in water for a day
and squeezed vigorously the following day. The juice thus obtained is left to ferment.
This is how you get one
strange, not unpleasant-tasting potion, but its effect is certainly not that only in small quantities
is to be attributed to the alcohol present, but to other substances formed during fermentation.« (REKO 1938:
142* )
According to a recent recipe, a handful of the fresh twig tips are crushed and placed in water for one person
is left to stand in the sun for a few days, allowing it to ferment slightly. A cup of it is supposed to yellow vision
and mild euphoria (D. MCKENNA 1995: 102*).
The cold water extract from the leaves is sticky. Even at
Doses of 15 g of dried leaves did not produce any psychoactive effects (MARTINEZ 1994: 295*).
The fresh or dried leaves are brewed alone or with other herbs as a tea.
An alcoholic extract (tincture) can be obtained from the fresh herb with 60 to 80% ethanol. 20 to 25 g of
Tincture are considered a psychoactive effective dose.

Medical application
In Mexican folk medicine, sinicuiche is considered a narcotic, intoxicant, diuretic and antipyretic (DiAZ 1979: 77*,
Jiu 1966: 2540. The Huasteken use the shrub as a medicinal bath additive (ALCORN 1984: 665*). In the Mexican

ingredients
The shrub contains the quinolizidine alkaloids lythrine, cryogenin (= vertin), heimin, sinicuichin, anelesin, heimidin, lyfolin,
Dehydrodecodin, Abresoline, Demethyllasubin-I and -I1, Epidemethocyabresoline, Sinin, Lythridin, Vesolidin and Cryofolin. That
Cryogenin is considered the main alkaloid with anticholinergic and anticonvulsant effects (MALONE and ROTHER 1994: 137,
SCHOLZ and EIGNER 1983: 75*). The four best researched Lythraceae alkaloids are vertin (= cryogenin), lyfolin,
lythrin and nesidin (MALONE and ROTHER 1994). The biological precursor to Vertin is phenylalanine (ROTHER
and SCHWARTING 1972).
The leaves contain 15% tannin, 9c% bitter substances and 14% resin (MARTiNEZ 1994: 294* ). The roots and seeds
are free from alkaloids (DOBBERSTEIN et al. 1975, MALONE and ROTHER 1994: 139).

Effect
The potion brewed from Heitrlia salicifolin has only weak psychoactive effects:
'Sinicuiche is mildly intoxicating. It causes a pleasant, slightly euphoric dizziness, numbness,
and the surroundings are perceived as darker. Auditory hallucinations occur, the intoxicated hears unclear sounds from a large
Distance.
The environment is shrinking. There are no known unpleasant after-effects.« (SCHOLZ and EIGNER 1983:75)
Again and again, yellow-sighted visions and slight auditory hallucinations, tunnel effects and tunnel visions
reported (D. McKENNA 1995: 102; oral communication by Rob Montgomery). Also chills was mentioned (oral
Message from Bob Wallace).
In animal experiments, the alkaloids show anticholinergic and antispasmodic effects (D. MCKENNA 1995: 1020. Die
The pharmacology of vertin (= cryogenin) is said to be identical to that of the total extract (KAPLAN and MALONE 1966).
Self-experiments with the alkaloids vertin, lythrine (310 mg;
corresponds to about 36 to 156 g of the dried twig tips) and
Acetylsalicylic acid has not proven any psychoactivity (MALONE and ROTHER 1994: 142).

1973 - A New Phenylquinolizidol of Heimia salicifolia

Summary. 2-Hydroxy(a)-4-(3-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)(e)-trans-quinolizidine, a compound which the structural features of a proposed biosynthetic Intermediate product of the lactonic Lythraceae Possesses alkaloids, was found in seedlings Heimia salicifolia detected.

1986 - PROSTAGLANDIN SYNTHETASE INHIBITION BY ALKALOIDS OF HEIMIA SALICIFOLIA

Summary
Two alkaloids from Heimiu salicifoliu, cryogenine and nesodine, were
respectively 2.48 and 2.24 times as potent as aspirin as inhibitors of prostaglandin
synthetase prepared from bovine seminal vesicles. Reference compounds,
indomethacin and phenylbutazone, were respectively 2800 and 8.75
times as potent while a synthetic analogue of cryogenine, JB-l-0, was 0.656
times the potency of aspirin. This activity may help to explain the traditional
medicine use of H. salicifolia in the Americas.

1994 - Heimia SALICIFOLIA a phytochemical and phytopharmacologic review

Abstract
Heimia sa~ic~~Ija grows wild from Mexico to Argentina. The aerial parts have a wide folk reputation for antisyphilitic,
sudoritic, antipyretic, laxative and diuretic activity, and are reported to be useful in preparing post partum
baths and to enhance wound healing. Its four most studied alkaloids are vertine, lyfoline, lythrine and nesodine. Structural
relationships of the Heimia alkaloids and certain synthetic 4-arylquinolizidines are reviewed here. Preliminary
clinical evaluation indicates that vertine and lythrine given orally appear to lack the psychodysleptic activity that has
been touted for native brews said to incorporate H. saiirifoiia. Most of the animal studies discussed here have focused
on the ataractic, anti~nflammato~ and antispasmodic potential of vertine and on the hydrodiuretic potential of lythrine
and decine, a structurally related alkaloid found in Decodon verticillatus. The ataractic activity of vertine does not appear
to be dependent on the depletion or blockade of catecholamines. while its antiinflammatory capacity seen in both
exudative and immunologic systems seems to be dependent in part on an intact pituitary-adrenal system and in part
on inhibition of prostaglandin synthase. The antispasmodic activity of vertine has been demonstrated on many isolated
tissues using different agonists, but appears to be largely musculotropic in nature. Only lythrine and decinine have been
shown to be true hydrodiuretics and may prove to be useful in treating Addison’s disease and general nephrosis. A
number of synthetic 4-arylquinolizidines and related compounds appear to possess antiin~ammatory potential.

2019 - Asymmetric Total Synthesis of Biphenylquinolizidine Alkaloids 4"-O-Demethyllythridine and 14-epi-4"-O-Demethyllythridine

ABSTRACT: The first asymmetric total synthesis of new
biphenylquinolizidine alkaloids 4"-O-demethyllythridine and
14-epi-4"-O-demethyllythridine isolated from Heimia salicifolia
was accomplished. The key steps in the synthesis were a
copper(I)-catalyzed asymmetric intramolecular aza-Michael
reaction to build a chiral 4-arylquinolizidine unit and an
intramolecular Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction to
construct a macrolactone ring comprising a biphenyl moiety.

My experience with this (also known as "sinicuichi") was awful, and many others have reported the same. I also have read reports of entheogenic effects, with a yellowing of vision and euphoria. I prepared a tea with 10 grams. Traditional use says to ferment it in the sun, but instead, I let it sit in the fridge for a day. I drank it, and after a while, sounds dropped like somewhere a little under a whole step in pitch, with tinny overtones. Actually quite similar to DiPT, except far, far weaker. But then I started getting very fatigued and felt weird, so I laid down. I sort of fell asleep, and when I got up, every muscle in my body felt like there were daggers twisting in them. I had to pee and I collapsed to the floor from how much pain I was feeling. It hurt to move my eyes, it hurt to breathe, I basically existed in pure pain for hours and hours. It was a long time ago but I remember clearly how horrible the pain was. The next day, my muscles still hurt but it was bearable the downshift in pitch and the tinny overtones made music sound soulless and unpleasant, and that effect lasted for days. In fact I started to worry I had permanently damaged my sense of hearing/pitch.

It was a horrible experience and I was shocked because I hadn't read about that, only about positive experiences. But after that I started reading about more experiences like mine. And also more experiences that were reported as positive without the muscle pain.

I have always wondered if the sun tea method (fermenting it n the sun) is what makes the difference... could be that fermentation, or light exposure, or just being left in a warm environment in liquid, causes some compound(s) to undergo some change? Or it's also possible there is a lookalike plant that is sometimes sold as sinicuichi.

Either way, it was horrible enough that I threw the rest away and will never try again.

yea, i believe you mentioned that some time ago. will start really low with this. up until now these extracts were all very weak and short lived in duration. but interesting and sometimes even helpful.

Doesn't one of the alkaloids have a N-N bond, like hydrazine? Not really happy ingesting anything with a hydrazine or aromatic amine structure within it (has to be a blinding headache before taking repeat dosrs of paracetamol).

Then again, I may be confusing the alkaloids with another plant (hey, I'm retired now - a little leeway, please! 😁).

Duh. So, that's all there is on here? No one ever tried the sun method? Well I did. The last three days that is and that after pouring hot water and mixing a tsp of honey - with 20 g leaves. Drank it almost two hours ago and still waiting for anything effect
- wise... 😮‍💨
Oh, but the nicotine is kicking good 🤷...
... Probably gonna lose patience soon and go for truffles instead🙄

Edit: I had less instructions maybe I should have squeezed the leaves and let only the rest ferment
🙄

Update: This goddamn stuff killed my trip! 15 g Truffles 4 hours after drinking the S*** wasted totally. Just a slight feeling of a comeup and then nothing 😳
I'm completely sober with nothing but the feeling of having exercised yesterday ( slightly sore muscles). FFS!!!

I've grown that plant and never had any particularly pleasant effects. It would always make it hard to sleep, despite feeling something adjacent to sedation.

I definitely agree to no pleasant effects. Instead the soreness increased until ~11 hours after ingestion to a post-heavy-full body-workout-level, luckily not more. Today I still feel it but it's better.
Anyways what you write confirms it 100% that this is a once in a lifetime thing for me...🙏
