HEATH Ledger has died from an apparent drug overdose.

The 28-year-old Perth-born actor was found dead in his apartment in New York.

The New York Post said his apartment was strewn with pills, adding that it was unclear whether the death was intentional.

The celebrity website TMZ said Ledger was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3.35pm New York time (7.35am AEDT).

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime.

Ledger has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. He was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film The Dark Knigh

Heath Ledger was found dead in his Manhattan apartment.

The Academy Award nominated actor was 27.

Ledger's housekeeper found him dead in his Manhattan apartment, New York police said.

He died at 3:26 p.m., they said.

The New York Fire Department received a call at 2:27 today responding to a "cardiac arrest call" in New York.

They found an unresponsive male dead at the scene.

In 2005, the actor played Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain," about two cowboys who had a secret relationship.

The role earned him the Oscar nomination.

damn, that is some crazy shit.

Wow, reading the headline, I did a double take and immediately wondered what kind of sick joke someone was pulling... But everyone's reporting the same thing...

Great actor. I loved Brokeback Mountain. He was the best gay cowboy ever!

RIP. What a sad, sad day...

I hope this doesn't affect the new Batman movie.

I don't think they're sure about the cause of death yet. But an OD wouldn't surprise me.

The cops said they were apparently OTC sleeping pills.

This has to be an intentional suicide... You don't accidentally take too many benadryls.

Seemed like he was on top of his game, I wonder what caused this...

A) The new Batman is done filming, so we'll still get to see it, and B) According to the New York Times, the apartment actually belonged to Mary-Kate Olsen.

Whore?

Holy shit, this is really sad Heath Ledger was a boss, I don't get it, Owen Wilson tries to kill himself, Heath Ledger actually kills himself...If all these celeberties have so many problems and shit why don't they just retire and chill the fuck out, seriously they have it fucken made whats there to be depressed about?

heath was a god among us men...

Are you fucking serious!?

I sincerely hope you're being facetious.

PLEASE tell me you're fucking kidding.

If you have a vagina, I could see the statement being based on looks and "omg, he's liek soo hawt!!!!11"

But the poster says "us men"

Besides being an actor, what exactly did he contribute to society?

NOTHING.

Not a damn.thing.

He's certainly not a "god among us men"

My co-worker is a greater person than Heath would have ever been.

^ So I take it you personally knew Mr. Ledger then?

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with a lot of the celebrities on pedestals thing, but it is sad that he passed away since he was a fine Australian actor. But I won't judge him since I don't actually know anything about his personal life...do you?

^ Tom Leykis was just having this same debate with this realllllly stupid chick on the radio. We can't lick everybody's balls when they die, maybe if it was Jack Nicholson.....

P.S. Just because someone is a celebrity it doesn't mean they 'have it made,' or 'have it fucken made'...

I'm not saying he was a bad person. Hell, I'll even give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was a friendly, nice and intelligent human being.

But a god among us mere mortals?

Puh-lease.

I hate celebrity worshiping SOOO much. :X

He was a good actor, he didn't rely on just his good looks.

Fucking shame. I am glad though that he finished recording the new Batman. Man what a weak way to go out.
