Eh, Candy sucked, but goddamn I really gained a lot of respect for him as an actor over the years. I wish all these actors and musicians I love would clean up their acts so I can continue enjoying their art!

lol...maybe I appreciate the movie because I've read the book only a gazillion times and it was good to see it fleshed out...by him no less. *slaps you around*

why cant i quit you.. :( My officemate keeps saying it and its making me laugh but at the same time i still cant believe he's gone.

An autopsy will be carried out on the body of actor Heath Ledger overnight Australian-time, the New York City Police Department says.

A police spokesman this evening said the medical examiner's office would conduct the autopsy between 9am and 5pm (1am and 9am AEDT).

Police have confirmed that sleeping pills were discovered near the body of Ledger, 28, when he was found dead in a Manhattan apartment today.

New York Police Department deputy commissioner Paul Browne said the Oscar-nominated Australian actor's body was found naked and face-down on the floor of his bedroom by a housekeeper about 3.30pm Tuesday (7.30am Melbourne time).

''There were pills within the vicinity of the bed,'' Mr Browne said.

But he stressed that pills were not scattered around Ledger's body, as had been previously reported.

"There were some prescription medications that included sleeping pills," he said.

The 28-year-old actor, who had reportedly been ill with pneumonia, had an appointment for a massage at the apartment, which is believed to be his home in Soho in Manhattan.

The housekeeper went to tell Ledger the masseuse had arrived and found him naked and unconscious at the foot of his bed.

Ledger's former fiancee, Brokeback Mountain co-star Michelle Williams - the mother of his two-year-daughter Matilda - was reported to be ''devastated'' by his death and had boarded a flight to New York.

Representatives of the actor's family said police had advised them his death was accidental, the TMZ.com website reported.

The site said representatives had made contact to say Ledger's family was particularly distraught over media speculation that he may have taken his own life. He was not that kind of person, the family said.

A lot of conflicting info strewn about the place. I barely knew who he was tbh but yea, proper shame. He was set up to play some fairly hardcore roles AND with some fairly big actors... i mean, imagine working with the Waits!

God damn you, Heath. Fucking pussy.

Did anyone see Candy? heath was a god among us men...

"candy" was an awesome movie. RIP Heath.

they found cocaine and a rolled up 20 dollar bill next to him.

the guy couldn't hang....

and calling him a god?

fuckin kidding me?

I'm not saying he was a bad person. Hell, I'll even give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was a friendly, nice and intelligent human being.

But a god among us mere mortals?

Puh-lease.

I hate celebrity worshiping SOOO much.

Yeah, 'God amongst men' is a huge stretch, but I'm pretty sure he was a decent guy in real life, I'm not sure though.

More of a demi-God ;)

Let's get back on track...

The pills they found were Ambien, alprazolam(Xanax), and Diazepam(Valium). He had prescriptions for all of them, and it seemed like they said the bottles were full. They also found a rolled up bank note, but it didn't have any drug residue on it.

Looks like we'll have to wait for the autopsy results before we know exactly what the COD was.

Hopefully this will turn out to be accidental, maybe even not drug related at all.

This could have been any of us.

Most of us have taken more Ambien, Xanax, Valium and/or Coke than we should, and survived.

I wasn't a huge fan of Heath, but this certainly doesn't make him less of a person - just less alive.

It is bugging me seeing other sites where people are saying he was just a junkie and deserved to die. No one knows that. The media is making it worse by describing the scene as anything from pills strewn around to drug residue'd bills. None of which have proven to be true. There were Ambien and Xanax. Possibly Valium prescribed to him. BFD. I have all of those with me every day, prescribed to me. Hopefully if I die tomorrow people won't say I was a junkie because I have my prescribed meds with me next to my bed.

I'm not quite buying the drug-free banknote story. All those damned bills have drug residue on them.

I don't think I've seen mentioned in this thread yet a fact reported today - there were two medicines found which were prescribed in Europe - maybe flunitrazepam or something else equally dangerous?

Ledger said he'd been getting something like 2 hours of sleep nightly. I think he accidentally offed himself trying to get to sleep.

I remember seing on some stupid celebrity gossip show that he also was on zoloft. In one interview he looks really nervous and fidgety so maybe he had really bad anxiety along with depression and insomnia.

Still i think you would have to take massive amounts of xanax, ambien and valium altogether to be enough to be lethal. Even with all those pills together you would probably need to swallow most of the bottle of each one. Benzos are nearly impossible to OD on and im not sure about ambien but i imagine it's not very lethal either. Of course if he had a few drinks with those pills that would make them a whole lot more lethal.

We will just have to wait for the coroners report to come in before we know what killed him.

It's funny that they found a rolled up $20 bill at the scene, yet immediately ruled out "any illegal narcotics" from the cause of death. I guess the much expected toxicology report will reveal more. Until then, it's all just speculation...

Did Ledger refuse drug rehab?
Daily Telegraph
January 31, 2008

HEATH Ledger refused to check in to a Malibu drug rehab clinic after being driven there by his distraught lover, according to new claims.

Actress Michelle Williams took Ledger, then then fiance, to the Promises rehab centre in 2006 becauee he was abusing heroin, cocaine and alcohol, the magazine Us Weekly reports.

Ledger instead vowed he would clean himself up, the cover story says.

But when Ledger broke that promise - and after Williams left him in 2007 because of his hard partying - she demanded he be drug-tested whenever he was going to be alone with their young daughter, Matilda.

Reports from the UK have suggested Ledger believed Williams was about to serve legal papers demanding sole custody of Matilda.

However, no drugs were found in the Manhattan apartment where Ledger was found dead last week - just various prescription medications and a rolled up $US20 bill.

And model Sophie Ward, sister to supermodel Gemma Ward - who has been romantically linked with Ledger - said at Christmas time Ledger showed no signs of a drug problem when they were hanging out in Perth.

"He smoked cigarettes but that's about it. He said he was very committed to not drinking alcohol," she said.

Meanwhile, the comparisons between Ledger and other screen legends who died young continue.

"Heath Ledger is one of the first (James) Dean-esqe people to die in the Internet age, so his death will be the testing ground to see how long the Net will fan the flame," Chris Epting, author of James Dean Died Here, told usatoday.com. "It will be interesting to see: Will he be immortalized or will the next big thing totally supplant him in a couple of weeks?"
