heat

I smell the heat
throughout the house
and a familiar scent
of dry old furniture
unswept dust
I get sniffles and touch
the elegant crystals
by the couch
and just barely resist
coughing into my fist
then feeling nostalgic
from the nocturnal sweat
layered on my chest
I try to sleep in my nest
but I can’t stop rolling over
drenched

in regards to your dilemma

take what you can
and will
and leave the
rest
as the powers that be
are becoming much
less and less
in terms of actually
making a difference
to your adversity
and I can’t see things
changing for you
at this time
well I’ve got to split
as my two cents
cost me a nickel
and rhyme
~
will i run?

is this
a dream?
was that
a memory
of mine?
or a feelin’
I’ve forgotten
from somethin’
I’ve done
will I succeed?
will I run?

i like your use of "smells" cuz scents/odors can be powerful reminders of certain times/events. as soon as i read the first bit, i could literally smell that particular scent of heat inside a house.
another great bit of writing.
